Election Rules

  • Voting of PhDs and RAs: Only those who have paid the CSEA fees.
  • Manifestoes for CRs: No manifestoes for CRs. CRs should have proposals and seconders. But, the elections for the CRs are perfectly flexible and ECs are free to adjust : making manifestoes compulsory, making it more loose or removing need for proposals/seconder etc.
  • Newsgroup campaigning. Only manifestoes and follow-ups allowed. The discretion whether newsgroups are misused lie with the election officers who may debarred the candidate.
  • A person proposing a candidate for a post can second another candidate, but only for a different post.
  • Rules for CR post:
    • Manifestoes for CRs: No manifestoes are required for CRs but they should have proposals. Same person cannot propose one and second another for the same post of CR.
    • Proposal/seconding for a CR is considered a separate post. i.e. a person who has proposed/seconded a CR can propose and also second candidates for CSEA posts irrespective of his proposal/seconding done for a CR.
    • Proposal/Seconding for the CR to be done by some batchmate.
  • A candidate can contest for only one post at a time. (Post for CR excluded. i.e he can contest for CR along with CSEA post, but not 2 CSEA posts).
  • Contesting Candidates are not eligible to propose/second other candidates.
  • Post soap-box campaigning is not allowed.
  • E.Os can preferably choose to have first, second and third choices in the first voting phase itself for the senior posts, so that the need to hold elections second and third time is eliminated.
  • Above rules can be changed on the discretion of ECs and CSEA coucil to suit the need of the time.
