ANNOUNCEMENT

The convergence of Logic with the recent scientific advances has resulted in Logic providing a unifying foundational framework for Mathematics, Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science, Cognitive Science, Linguistics and Economics. It has led to the understanding of rational human behaviour, stimulated our exploration of the physical basis of the human mind and offered a powerful tool for modeling and reasoning. Nevertheless, there is an inadequate understanding of logic and its relationship with the disciplines mentioned above among the students, research scholars and specialists in these disciplines. Efforts need to be made to ameliorate this state of affairs.

In the past two years IIT Bombay has been making concerted and resolute efforts to mitigate this situation by organizing a Conference and a Winter School. This year, IIT Bombay is organizing a 3 day conference on logic and its relationship with other disciplines. Specifically, this conference is also to honour one of the most highly regarded and celebrated logician, computer scientist, mathematician and philosopher, Prof. Rohit Jivanlal Parikh, on his seventieth birthday.
