THE BEST n-2 OUT OF n assigned homeworks will be considered, for a total of 10 marks out of overall 100. MARKS ROUNDING: In each homework each question will carry equal weightage, say m=10 marks. If there are k questions, say k=4, then you will first be given marks out of 40. If you get at least mk/2 marks out of the total mk, then your marks will be rounded up to mk, otherwise they will be rounded down to 0. TAs will give you marks they think you deserve, and which indicate the quality of your work. It is hoped that the rounding will limit any cribbing for the marks. I really hope that you will not crib about raising your marks from 49% to 50% but aim higher to begin with. COLLABORATION POLICY: You may discuss the homeworks with other students. Their names must be mentioned on what you submit. This will not cause you to lose marks; however, you may lose marks if you do indeed collaborate but do not acknowledge it. WRITE ON YOUR OWN: You must write strictly on your own. Do not even look at what others may have written. Writing is a very important skill. If you are having difficulties discuss this with the instructor/TAs by e-mail or during office hours. DONT BE SHORTSIGHTED: It is possible to get full marks on the homeworks by solving the easy problems, or by getting solutions from your friends without doing any thinking on your own. This is not a good strategy, the more important purpose of the homeworks is to help you practice so that you do well in the tests, which have far more weightage.
