I am done being the facad of this batch. The last thing to do is to
"marshall" the students at the convocation .. Aug 10, 2007.
I am keeping the rest of the page for posterity and (perhaps) to help
other facads.
Welcome! It's my pleasure -- really -- to welcome you all to the CS
Department. This page contains preliminary information on how I will
interact with you over the next four-five years. As we go along, we
will build this page. Much of the information on this page address
the concerns of B.Tech students, since we are still groping with some
of the nuances of the Dual Degree program.
As a faculty advisor, I will be primarily responsible for the
following "hard" tasks.
- Registration of courses. I will countersign the courses that you
have registered for. I request you to carefully look at any
prerequisites that a course might have before you sign up for a
course. Please note that I do have the ability to cancel your
registration at any time, so please be careful.
- Allotment of seminar and B. Tech projects.
- Works visit and practical training.
- Industrial tour.
- Routine administrative matters: Note that you DO NOT NEED my
approval to get a room in the guest house.
More generally
- I will serve as a "bridge" between you and other faculty in the
institute. I hope to keep your interests in mind when I argue for a
particular proposal.
- Guide you, to the best of *my* ability in *your* goal to be a great
human being, a first class citizen, a scientist and engineer, and a
computer scientist in particular.
Getting in touch with me....
Please feel free to paper WRITE to me at any time, should you feel like
sharing something with me. Or email me if you have some strong emotions.
Do not, in any event, send me HTML mail (or gasp!) Word
documents. (Check out some thoughts
on this).
And oh, when you write to me, please make sure that you check your
grammar and spelling. Would you speak like an idiot if you are in
person? You won't? Then why write like you have never learnt English?
Here is a list of students in the program.
As you no doubt realize, a "deletion"
algorithm is often
more difficult than an "insert". So I request you to write to me in
case you notice that one of the students in this list has either
dropped out, or moved to a different department. Also write to me if
you spot any errors.
Ciao.
