Manjaa The Manjaa is a traditional Punjabi bed . It consists of a wooden frame bordering a set of knotted ropes . Traditionally the user would lie directly on top of the ropes without an intervening mattress . The making of a Manjaa begins with the tying of a Jee ( Life knot ) at one corner of the bed . The art of weaving the manjaa is called manjaa unena . Manjaa were known as Charpoy ( from the Punjabi word chaarpaaee ) to the British .  This article about the culture of India is a stub .
