Steven Brian Stone ( born August 20 , 1971 in Gateshead ) is an English football ( soccer ) player , born . He currently plays for Leeds United He is a right-sided midfield player who can also play at full back . Stone began his career at Nottingham Forest F.C. , where despite suffering three broken legs , he managed to establish himself as a vital team player , and also earned a call up to the England squad , making his international debut in 1995 against Norway . He went on to earn 9 caps , scoring twice . However , another serious leg injury meant he missed the entire 1996/97 season . Despite this he fought his way back into the Forest team . Following the club 's relegation from the FA Premier League , he moved to Aston Villa F.C. for £5.5 million in 1999 , having made 229 appearances for Forest . He soon became a vital team player under then manager John Gregory . However , following Gregory 's dismissal , Stone failed to impress new manager Graham Taylor and he was transferred to Portsmouth F.C. for the 2002/03 season , having played in 121 games for Villa . Despite continued injuries he established himself as a regular in the Portsmouth team . He was an invaluable part of the team that won promotion to the FA Premier League , and then achieved mid table finishes the following two seasons . However , when his contract expired in June 2005 new manager Alain Perrin decided to release Stone , who went on to sign for Leeds . A famous crowd chant dedicated to him went : `` Stevie Stone . Stevie Stone , Stevie Stevie Stone . He 's got no hair but we do n't care . Stevie Stevie Stone '' . Unfortunately Steve suffered a serious Achilles injury in pre-season training but after initially recovering from it he contracted a serious infection on the wound from the surgery and it was thought that he would be out indefinitely . However on April 22nd , eight long months after he signed for the club he had returned to full fitness and made his debut for Leeds having a hand in the goal scored by David Healy in the victory against Crewe . Steve also featured in the play-off semi finals for Leeds United but did not feature in the final where they lost out to Watford . Stone has played in several matches since the start of the 2006-07 season and was due to undergo a hernia operation at the start of October . He planned to continue to play up until the operation took place . He now , however , plans to leave the operation until the end of the season when he retires from playing football .
