...is how JOHN "JUKE" LOGAN describes one of his recent recording sessions. JUKE is featured playing harmonica
with LOS LOBOS backing JOHN LEE HOOKER on the opening track of Hooker's up-coming release, "DON'T LOOK BACK"
for Pointblank Records. Together they cut a re-make of "DIMPLES", an early John Lee classic, & it kicks off
the new Hooker album (due out in February 1997) in a rocking style...

Logan, on harmonica, has worked with Los Lobos before, in "live" performance, and on the soundtrack (and soundtrack
album) to the film "LA BAMBA". DAVID HIDALGO and CONRAD LOZANO of Lobos appear (Hidalgo on guitar, accordian and
vocals / Lozano on bass) on "THE CHILL", the first solo-album by John "Juke"
Logan, released in '95 on RAZOR & TIE RECORDS (RT 2818).

"JUKE RHYTHM", Logan's second album, is out in Europe on SKY RANCH / VIRGIN
RECORDS, and will see U.S. release by Spring of '97. European response has been fantastic, with the album being called
"a natural progression of "The Chill". It features 13 new Logan-original-compositions and many guest musicians
including KID RAMOS (FABULOUS THUNDERBIRDS), RICK VITO (ex-FLEETWOOD MAC / BONNIE RAITT), MICHAEL TEMPO (BONEDADDYS),
GARY PRIMICH & BRENDA BURNS, in addition to Hidalgo & Lozano again. We will
keep you posted on the details of "JUKE RHYTHM's" domestic release...

"THE CHILL" continues to receive strong airplay coast-to-coast, in both
Triple-A and Blues radio formats. Beginning in the summer of 1996, it began receiving some particularly interesting
airplay in L.A.: SANCHO, L.A.'s most popular Latino radio host, who broadcasts every Saturday night from KPCC 89.3 FM
(and is syndicated throughout the Southwestern states), began playing "THE LONG LOW RIDE", "SHE'S COOL PEOPLE", and
"FAN THE FLAMES" in healthy rotation to great response. Logan, for whom Latin music has always been a strong influence,
is proud to be on Sancho's "Airwaves of Atzian"...

JUKE, at Sancho's request, donated "The Long Low Ride" (a duet with Brenda Burns about the Low Rider Culture), to the compilation CD, "BEST OF SANCHO, VOL.3", on Sounds of Sancho Records. All proceeds of the sale of this CD go to the QUETZALCOATL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND, to benefit deserving Latino students. The disc is available from SOUNDS of SANCHO, PO Box 92500, Pasadena, CA 91109 / (818) 584-4104.

Speaking of Logan's "main-musical-partner", BRENDA BURNS, "Miss Five Feet of Soul" has had an eventful year. Still Juke's co-front-person in the CHILL ACES, Burns' songwriting has had a wave of recent success, her songs being recorded and released this year by MARIA MULDAUR, C.J. CHENIER and FRANCINE REED, among others. Lately, Brenda can be found writing for and with the legendary POP STAPLES, patriarch of the Staple Singers: both Pop and daughter Mavis have Burns' songs on tap for '97. "A SONG AWAY FROM YOU", the first solo-album by Brenda Burns, produced by Burns, her husband and Chill Aces' bassist-extraordinaire GREGORY BOAZ, and Logan, is hot off the CD-press as of December (available from BIG BOSS RECORDS, PO Box 481153, Los Angeles, CA 90048 / fax: (213) 931-6594).

Among other recording activity for Juke Logan recently, has been playing on the up-coming release by TERRY EVANS with RY COODER, the next offerings by CANNED HEAT and STONE TEMPLE PILOTS(!!), and he taps into the children's market as he plays harp with good friend CATFISH HODGE on his disc "THE CATFISH POND" and with RITA COOLIDGE on her entry ("THE LATE-FOR-SCHOOL BLUES") on the compilation "BIG BLUES", both released in '96 on Music for Little People Records. Logan can be found playing piano on the disc "LONE WOLF" by friends the RHYTHM LORDS, also released in '96. Other discs made in '96 to feature Juke's harmonica are by JOEY LAWRENCE (Curb Records), BRIDGETTE McWILLIAMS (Virgin Records), and HIMURO (Japan).

The Juke Logan harmonica was typically active this year in the film, TV and commercial mediums. Among the films to feature Juke's harp-work was "TWO DAYS IN THE VALLEY", wherein the harmonica helped to musically illustrate what the film-critics called "the spandex cat-fight of the year"...Harmonica-duties on "ROSEANNE" were split between Juke and John Popper of Blues Traveler (Roseanne's favorite band). Logan's was the exclusively-featured harmonica in that show's music through its first 8 seasons.

Juke's bass-harmonica continues to be heard in the theme to "HOME IMPROVEMENT", and his on-camera appearance as a hard-hat-wearing, harp-playing construction worker, as part of the "Tool-Time Band", has been re-broadcast many times (it's been the #1-ranked H.I. episode in ratings). Other TV shows to feature Logan's harmonica-work in their scores this year have been "SAVANNAH", "BEVERLY HILLS 90210" and "THE JEFF FOXWORTHY SHOW", as well as commercials for HONDA, DISCOVER CARD, and many others.

Juke Logan is still writing songs like crazy, and his publishing companies (JUKE-HOUSE MUSIC [ASCAP/BUG] and JUKE-HOUSE TOO [BMI/BUG]) are more active than ever. "WHAT'S IT GONNA BE", written by Logan, Burns and Boaz, will be featured on the much-anticipated disc by harp-player's-harp-player GARY PRIMICH, due in January '97 from Black Top Records. The PALADINS, who recorded the Logan-composition "LET'S BUZZ" as the title-track of their 1990 release on Alligator, have reprised the song on their new "live" album "MILLION MILE CLUB" on 4 AD records. JOHN MAYALL, who covered Juke's "FAN THE FLAMES" on his latest disc, continues to perform that song as an encore-number. At their recent Santa Monica Pier Twilight Concert, Mayall and his Bluesbreakers honored Logan with an invitation to join them in performing the song.

Also in '96, Juke co-produced an album on unique singer-songwriter STEPHANIE RIGGIO (who's musical direction has more similarities to Joan Osborne's or Sheryl Crow's than it does to straight Blues). The disc, "ONE BRAVE ACT", of which Logan is very proud, will see release in '97. Riggio, in addition to being a musical talent, is a featured DJ on KPCC in their new Triple-A radio format.

On the "live" stages, Logan continues to be active in two formats, one being a duo with highly regarded guitarist/singer/songwriter Doug MacLeod. JOHN "JUKE" LOGAN and DOUG MacLEOD, as "two solo-artists playin' together", draw mainly from each man's catalog of originals (Doug's latest, in his string of fine albums, is "YOU CAN'T TAKE MY BLUES" on Audioquest). Increased activity for the duo in '96 has cast them as regulars in several L.A. venues, including the main showroom of B.B. King's Blues Club in Universal City. Juke will join Doug in the making of the next MacLeod album in March, and they also plan to record as a duo in '97. In a band-format, Logan continues to tear it up with his "Blues and R&B swat team", the aforementioned JUKE LOGAN and the CHILL ACES featuring BRENDA BURNS. Music Connection voted the Chill Aces "one of the top 100 bands in L.A.", and given the amount of bands in L.A. they'll take it.

July '96 marked the four-year anniversary-on-the-airwaves of the "FRIDAY NIGHT BLUES REVUE", 8pm-10pm every Friday night on KPCC 89.3 FM for Southern California. Hosts ELLEN BLOOM and JOHN "JUKE" LOGAN have continued through this year to present all angles of Blues music, old and new, in a lively mix of recorded music and "live" on-air guests. The Blues Revue, the increased popularity of which has made it a Southern California "Blues Institution", is a labor of love of which Logan and Bloom are extremely proud. Juke, in his guise as "Blues-media-person", has been asked by KCET-TV (PBS-TV for Southern California) to host on-air Blues interview segments for their show LIFE AND TIMES; these should begin to air in early '97.
