color photographs of completed blocks, this book is perfect for those

101 Quilt Blocks for Hand Piecing or Machine piecing if You're Friends With Your Machine by Linda Causee
Patchwork goes portable in our newest " 101 Series " book of quilt blocks, complete with full-size patterns and helpful instructions for quilter's on the go-from beginners to experts. Updating the old notion that hand piecing is only for folks with too much time on their, well, hands this book shows how hand piecing can actually simplify the process of assembling some quilt blocks-particularly those with curves or seams that unite in a point. Best of all, your stitching project can be toted along in your purse while your sewing machine rests at home! Featuring many classic designs along with some innovations, this collection will instill new enthusiasm in every quiltmaker.

202 Little Log Cabin Blocks by Linda Causee LOST BOOK
Here's a collection of blocks that you will use time and time again for little or mini quilts. Also use them as a nice alternative for borders or corner setting blocks. By using this foundation method for piecing, you don't have to worry about exact cutting of any weird shapes or tedious matching of points. Pieces are added to a foundation using a stitch and flip open technique where all you have to do is stitch on the line.

500 Full-Size Patchwork Patterns by Maggie Malone
This book is a collection of patchwork patterns.
The collection is untraditional and there were few patterns that I
recognized. The pattern pictures are quite small and printed in black
and white. There are no instructions and you must be an experienced
quilter for some of the patterns. Overall, it is a neat pattern book.

5,500 Quilt Block Designs by Maggie Malone
With 5,500 blocks to copy, adapt, and combine in countless ways, no quilter will ever have to run out of patterns anymore. Some designs are classics and taken from museum collections, handed from friend to friend, or kept in a family for many years. Each pattern is drawn on a grid showing the number of squares to the block which makes it easy to mix-and-match, because they all draft to the same size. The dazzling choices include a Premium Star, Double Pyramid, Strips and Squares, Farmer's Puzzle, Sunburst, Beggar's Blocks, and countless more. They're arranged by type--including 4-, 5-, and 9-patch patterns; circles and curves; octagons; diamonds; and 8-point stars--and all indexed alphabetically by name. There's even information on each block's source. As a special bonus Maggie Malone has included a section of Alphabet Patch Patterns to use for personalizing every block.

America's Heritage Quilts; Better Homes and Gardens
If you love traditional quilt patterns, then this is the book for you.
Many books give you an overview of only one type of quilt but this one
has a great selection. My favorite is the section on crazy quilts and
what type of stitches were used but there are also many kinds of
traditional pieces blocks. Not only beautiful pictures of these quilts
but also how to actually make the blocks and put together these great
tradition quilts. There are over 70 patterns included.

America's Pictorial Quilts by Caron L. Mosey

American Patchwork & Quilting; Better Homes & Gardens
It gives great basic instructions on overall quilt making, from design
to completion. There is even a section on the criterion by which quilts
are judged at shows. Iif you want good instructions on traditional pieced
blocks and hand quilting, this is a good source.

Fifty-two spectacular color plates, most of antique needleart, proffer insights into this nineteenth-century quilt tradation. In clear closeup photography, they reveal antique fabric use, period embroidery, and subtleties of individual presentations. With integrity and artistry, a spendid fifty-six patterns for making fifty-eight 'beyond Baltimore" blocks are presented. Each one is referenced to applique lessons in Volume I, whose pattern companion this book is.
Baltimore Beauties and Beyond: Studies in Classic Album Quilt Applique- Vol. 1 by Elly Sienkiewicz
In a series of 12 lessons, Sienkiewicz describes in meticulous detail the ingenious methods employed a century past by Baltimore women, and others favored by contemporary needleworkers. Each lesson
prepares the reader to execute a 16-inch quilt block in one or more of
27 full-size patterns, cut from paper first folded into halves,
quarters or eighths. The book allows the faithful to advance from cutwork
applique to folded rosebuds, stuffed berries, ruching and inked
calligraphy. Each block is presented in color, as are four antique and
four contemporary quilts. Sienkiewicz's very specific how-to
instructions are verified by historical example--and one is always made
aware not only of the evolution of the stitches, but also of the
                    feelings that inspired them. Illustrations.

More than 160 inspiring designs, representing a wide range of Native American cultures, have been assembled by Dr. Joyce Mori, a well-known anthropologist. These patterns can be found on pottery and rugs, and they are used in beading, jewelry, and other crafts and are perfect for quilting motifs. The book spans the time from prehistory to the present, and where possible, the patterns have been identified by tribe or region. They are arranged by categories: small designs, designs for specific shapes, border designs, and whole-cloth designs. The patterns are presented as a series of elements that can be combined with others to produce new designs, such as adding a pima basket motif to a northwest coast drum design for a totally new composition. The author gives strategies for working with the quilting patterns and shows how she has developed or changed them. In addition to discovering many beautiful and unusual hand-quilting motifs, the reader will also find a section of continuous line patterns for machine quilting.
