I received responses from approximately twenty ladies and overwhelmingly, we like to see a man in a uniform, or nice pair of fitted jeans and a button up, or in resort wear, or in a suit or slacks with a shirt and tie and a good pair of shoes. But more importantly, we like to see him well-groomed, neat and in clothes that are well-fitted.

For the sake of today’s blog I am going to discuss the suit and the necessary accessories. Yes gentlemen… accessories! They are just as important when it comes to pulling off your total look, as they are to a lady pulling off hers. If you have been told that accessories do not matter much when it comes to men and dressing then you have been misinformed and I am here to set the record straight!

But before I proceed, let me just say this… if you are legally grown and you do not own a suit, you need to purchase at least one, preferably two to three. A man should typically have a black or navy suit, a gray suit and a neutral-colored suit like tan. Does that suit need to be brand new? No. But it needs look new. And it needs to not look cheap and chances are if you are getting one of those buy one suit for $99 and get the second half price deals, it is a cheap suit and if that is going to be your choice you may as well show up in sweats and house shoes to your event because you will get the same reaction!

My favorite era for the suit was the Harlem Renaissance. Our men were just so dapper and beautiful. Look at a young Langston Hughes pictured here with other notables of the day… just brilliance and that brilliance shined through in their appearances! I love the way the suits fit and how they were paired with the brims and overcoats back then. I just love that whole look! I appreciate that some of the suits today have that same style and feel and I appreciate even more, a man who really knows how to WEAR a suit.

Now on the flip side of that, here are some examples of suits I should NEVER, ever, ever, ever, ever, see you in!

Certain folks (including a celebrity or two who shall remain nameless) will have you believing that these suits are sharp! No sir. I am going to sum these suits up in five words and then we shall speak no more about them… LOUD, COUNTRY, TACKY, CLOWN, CHEAP. That is all.

A suit is an investment in your wardrobe so spend a few bucks and purchase a good suit or have one made especially for you. This may cost you a little more but unless you are required to wear suits all the time, it is so worth it.

There are a few things you should know about jacket and pant styles when looking for the right suit because depending on your personal style, weight, height, body type, the occasion and a few other factors, the style of suit you buy makes a difference. By style I mean this: Suits come in two or three-piece styles. Sometimes the vest may work and sometimes not. Jackets come with one, two, three, or four buttons and they may be single or double-breasted (and yes gentlemen the double-breasted suit has made a comeback). There are several types of jacket lapels… step collar which is the standard, shawl lapel or pointed lapel. Jackets also have vents in the back, usually one or two. Oh and before I forget gentlemen, please remember to remove the temporary stitching from the vents and the pockets. I should not still be seeing that when you are out actually wearing the suit. When it comes to pants, the more popular style right now is flat-front. But pleats are also making a comeback. There are cuffs and no cuffs, belt loops and no loops. I could go into much more detail but you get the picture. You have to know what style best works for you and you have to own it.

If I see one more man in an ill-fitted suit that looks like his older, BIGGER brother should be wearing it, I am calling the Fashion Police and demanding that an arrest be made. Do NOT pass go, do NOT collect $200… go directly to jail!! Or better yet, take that $200 and use it to pay for tailoring. Yes… TAILORING! I know it is a foreign term to some but we are about to all be on the same page because the BEST thing you can do for your wardrobe gentlemen, is have a great tailor. A great tailor will take you from a hot mess to GQ!

The first photo below is a perfect example of how a suit looks and fits when you buy it off the rack. Homeboy is swimming in this suit!! If I go to one more function or event and I see this I am liable to just grab the guy up by the collar and shake him! You have no idea how much I see this whole baggy suit look and it is just wrong. Yes, we tolerated it for a minute in the nineties for the sake of hip-hop and because I for one was just happy to see our young men in suits and slacks and dress shirts but if you still look like this in 2012, you are just wrong. You should NEVER wear a suit off the rack! There is always some type of alteration that needs to be made. The suit in the second picture is oh so RIGHT!

Let us talk about what is right in the first picture. Absolutely NOTHING! The suit is oversized, the jacket sleeves and pant legs are too long, the suit gives the young man the appearance that he is ten to twenty pounds heavier than he actually is and basically, the suit is wearing him. Gentlemen do not let your suit wear you! We love the suit on you but YOU make the suit. In the second picture the young man is most definitely wearing his suit and he is in total control of his look. Now there are a couple of things I would like you to pay attention to picture number two.

- The cut and fit of the entire suit: I’m sure this suit did not initially fit him like this but it has been altered to where it looks like it was especially made for his body. That is how a suit should fit… like it was especially made for YOUR body. And not only does he look good but he is comfortable in his suit and comfort also counts for a lot. If you are pulling and tugging at your clothes because you are uncomfortable it can also ruin your entire look.

- The length of the jacket sleeves: Notice that his shirt sleeves fall just past his wrist (you can see his watch) and the jacket sleeves fall between half an inch to an inch higher than the shirt sleeves. This is the look you want to go for. Your shirt cuffs should show under the jacket sleeves. I looks neater and it also balances out the color of the shirt. If you are wearing a shirt with French cuffs, we should be able to see your cuff links.

- The length of the pant legs: The pant legs in picture two fall slightly on the top of the shoe. This is what the length of a standard pair of slacks or trousers should be. If you sit down I should be able to see your a bit of your socks. Your pant legs should not be dragging on the ground! They should not be slouched or rolled up and they should not be tucked in your boots.

Now one thing I suggest for bigger and taller gentlemen who have trouble finding suits in the traditional stores is to find a Big and Tall store or two that sells quality suits and stick with them. The alternative is to find a good suit maker with great pricing because I know you have the hardest time finding suits and you will have to pay more. And because you may be bigger, does not mean that you need to wear an even bigger suit… that just makes you look BIGGER. Sometimes you may have to go larger because of the cut but the same tailoring rules apply… have the suit altered to fit your body. You may have a big belly but the right tailor can make that belly practically unnoticeable in your suit. It is ALL in the tailoring!! Here are a few examples of taller/larger men who look oh so sexy in their suits. We know that Cedric the Entertainer has a little extra loving in the front, but he wears the heck out of a suit!

And I know most of us do not have celebrity money but it does not take celebrity money, to look like a celebrity… it takes a sense of style, some creativity and a good tailor! And do not think that because of your extra weight or because you are extremely tall you cannot look just as good as Idris in your suit. We all have flaws… the trick knowing how to hide them. It goes for women and it goes for men!

Gentlemen… if you are going to spend the $500 for the suit, spend the extra $65 and have it tailored. I just cannot say this enough.

Okay so now you have your well-fitted suit and you are almost good to go. But first you need top it off with the right accessories. I know that sounds like a girly word but trust me gentlemen, if your accessories are not on point, you can and will ruin your entire look, just like with us.

Once you have the suit taken care of, these are a few main things you need to complete that polished look:

- Shirt: The shirt is one of the main items that can make or break your look. When choosing a shirt you must consider quality, style, pattern, color and cut. Shirts come in different cuts like regular, long and slim fit. Make sure you try your shirt on with your suit to make sure the style of shirt works with the style of suit, and also to make sure that it lays right under the jacket and pants. If the fit of the shirt is not perfect for you, then you can also have it altered.

- Shoes/Belt: Again, the wrong shoes can ruin your entire look. You want to make sure that your shoes are well kept, stylish but comfortable and in season. Keep your shoes polished and cleaned and make sure that you take care of the heels. You may have paid $500 for a pair of shoes but once you ruin the heel they are done. So make sure you keep a shoe maintenance kit and also make sure that you know a good shoe repairmen (yes they still exist) who can mend or replace those heels for you when they are getting worn down. Also pay attention to color. So you are wearing a navy suit. Well those brown loafers are not your only option. Try a burgundy shoe… they look great with navy! Your belts may or may not have to match your shoes. If you want to play it safe then yes. But if you are not afraid to play with color and pattern then try something different… maybe a brown shoe with a caramel-colored belt. You just have to make sure that the textures and colors work together. And don’t let me see not one more of you with a suit on and white socks or you are gonna get it!

- Tie/Pocket Square: Ties also com in different styles… the necktie, the bow tie, the ascot, the cravat and more. Choose your tie based on the style of suit and shirt you are wearing and the overall look you are going for. Most often, it is the tie that pulls the entire outfit together so again be conscious of pattern and color. Can you wear a stripped shirt with a paisley or polka dot tie? Absolutely! The key is knowing which colors work together and how to play the colors off of each other. The pocket square may or may not be necessary but again it depends on the look that you are going for. Is it business, is it evening or is black tie? This should be taken into consideration along with everything else.

- Socks: I’ve often heard guys say that the socks don’t really matter but that is so not true. Socks matter! The style of sock, the texture the pattern, the color, the length… it matters. Just like the tie, the socks can help pull your outfit together. I am not going to go into a lot of detail about the socks but I will say… get some color in your life. Gone are the days of solids and the typical colors like black brown and gray. Try a pair of red socks with that black suit or maybe a nice purple with that chocolate brown linen suit. Do not be afraid of pattern and color… just do not overdo it.

- Cufflinks/Jewelry: These items are usually the finishing touches to your outfit. Ok… just for the record… the blinged-out chains, the Jesus pieces, all of that… pawn it, melt it down give it, away but do NOT put it on with your suit. It screams out “I was broke and now I have a little bit of money and I really don’t know how to act”. Do NOT do it. Put on a nice dress watch (you should own several, at least a silver and a gold dress watch). Just like everything else, certain occasions and suits styles call for certain styles of watches so if you only have one or two… step your game up! The same goes for cufflinks – depending on the color suit, the style, the occasion and the colors you are wearing… all of this factors into the style of cufflinks you should choose to wear. If you have French cuffs then you need to wear cuff links. Sadly, some of our fellas do not realize this and they have the sleeves hanging down or rolled up and it just looks a mess. And most importantly, everything should be uniform. If you have on a gold watch do not put on a pair if silver cufflinks. Make sure that everything is coordinated… from the cufflinks, to the watch, to the bracelet, to the belt buckle, to the buckle in your shoe, to the earring(s) if you wear them. The tie clip is optional but it should also line up with the other jewelry items you are wearing. Oh and those three rings, take them off! If you are married, all you need is your wedding ring. If you are not and you choose to wear a ring make it a class ring or a pinky ring. Anything more is just tacky!

wordpress plugins and themes automotive,business,crime,health,life,politics,science,technology,travel

Well now… we are just about a week away from Valentine’s Day and you still have no clue what to get your lady as a gift. But once you decide and buy said gift, you will need to make sure you still have lunch and gas money for the remainder of the week. You want to surprise her, you need something that will *WOW* her, and something that will NOT leave you pulling lint out of your pockets. Do not fret… I am here to help you! Being a woman myself. I know five things that your lady will not only love to receive, but that will not break the bank.

1) FLOWERS

Valentine’s Day is first and foremost a celebration of love and romance. So what better way to express love and romance to your lady than with a bouquet of flowers? I for one LOVE flowers! Not only do they make me feel wonderful, but they brighten my spirit. They brighten up the house and they make whatever room they are in smell lovely. During the spring I usually buy flowers for the house a couple of times a month but it just doesn’t compare to receiving them. And please do not just stop off at the corner market on the way home and grab a bunch of wilting flowers! Put some thought and love into it. Surprise her at work or at home with a delivery! Not much makes a woman feel as good on a special day as someone tapping her on the shoulder while she’s seated at her desk to tell her she has a delivery of beautiful flowers. And you can get a gorgeous, full bouquet like this one on sale. But she doesn’t need to know that… you keep that part to yourself.

You can visit sites like this one – http://ww11.1800flowers.com/collection.do?dataset=10183 to view their full collection of bouquets and if you do just a little research, you can get a bouquet and candy like the chocolate-covered strawberries pictured (yum!) for under $100 (not including delivery). There are also bouquets on here that are appropriate to send to mom, grand-mom, sis and daughter. I have always believed that a girl’s first bouquet of flowers should come from her father. So if you have never sent your baby girl a bouquet, this is your chance!

2) PERFUME

This is actually my second favorite gift to receive on Valentine’s Day. I love to smell good and so do all of the women I know. Surprise her with a gift set featuring a perfume scent that she does not yet own. Just about every major department store has a fine fragrance counter and the salespeople are always on hand with tester bottles of the latest scents. Test a few and choose a scent the moves you and one that you would love to smell on her, as you’re whispering sweet nothings in her ear. Now some ladies prefer body sprays or oils to perfumes but you should know your lady and know her preference. If you do not then I suggest you get it together! You should ALWAYS know your woman’s size (clothes and shoes), her favorite food, favorite color, favorite scent and what she dislikes most in the world.

For a fine fragrance, a 3.4 oz bottle will normally run you under $100 (before taxes). Also consider gift sets because many times you can purchase the gift set which usually includes a smaller version the fragrance, a scented lotion and a shower/bath gel for around the same price.

Here just a few fragrances (and a few of my fave scents) to offer you a starting point.

If you are going to go the body spray route such as with a gift set from Victoria’s Secret, I would suggest that you pair it with a sexy negligee or bra & panty set. Again, you should know your lady’s size and if you do not normally buy her lingerie, the salesperson can help you with this. Just as with the scent, buy her something that you would love to see her in. If she usually wears shorts and a tee to bed, buy her that sexy satin and lace teddy you have been eying since you entered the store. Or perhaps that black lace bra and panty set tickles your fancy? Ultimately, she will be wearing it for you so get something that you both will enjoy.

SEXINESS!! The gift is about her but it will definitely be for your benefit because when momma is happy, EVERYBODY is happy. Catch my drift?

3) A DRESS

Ok, it doesn’t matter what the occasion is, a lady loves to buy a new dress and yours will especially love receiving one as a gift. Now this could be tricky because not only do you need to know your lady’s size and taste in dresses, you need to take her body type into consideration when purchasing. If you buy dresses for your lady regularly, then you are probably a pro at this but in the event you do not and you are a little clueless when it comes to this, here are a couple of tips to help you choose the style of dress that will be most flattering for her body type. If your lady is:

Pear- shaped (smaller in the top and wider/larger in the bottom area) – Fitted dress or A-Line that slims the bottom half.

Apple-shaped (wider in the torso/shoulders and smaller in the bottom area) – Empire waist to draw the attention away from the top and to the middle. You can also go with a fuller bottom for balance.

Banana (straight up and down, more of a boyish-type figure) – Dress that draws attention to the waist or the bust line but away from the top.

Hourglass-shaped (baby got back and front – lol) – Pretty much any style dress but especially one that accents the smaller waist.

If you are not sure what the style terms mean, it is okay. Again… the salesperson is always there to assist you. The popular department stores always have dress departments and Macy’s and Loehmann’s are great spots for reasonably-priced dresses. Make sure you check this site for any promos or sales first! Again, knowing your lady’s style preferences and also what colors compliment her skin tone count for a lot! Be daring in your choice… if it is a “freakum” dress you would like to see her in, then get it because the more you love it, the more excited you will be about taking it off of her at the end of the night. Also, do not hesitate to go for a bold color like a royal blue or coral… these colors tend to look great against any skin tone and they will make her feel and look amazing. If you have been in the store for two hours and you still cannot make a decision, go with old faithful… a wrap dress. They are easy, classic and they tend to flatter any figure. Here are just a few chic sexy style dresses for under $100.

4) SHOES

This just happens to be one of my *favorite* words! And it is a favorite word of just about every woman I know. What woman would not want to receive a gorgeous pair of shoes as a gift especially for Valentine’s Day? And we would all love to rock the red bottoms but realistically, that Louboutin money may not be available. But with great brands like Nine West, Guess and Jessica Simpson, finding a hot and sexy pair of shoes that she will love should be a breeze. All you need to do is make your way to a DSW, ALDO, Famous Footwear or the like and you are all in business. I am going to assume that you know your lady’s shoe size but do you purchase shoes for her? Does she prefer 5-inch heels or 3-inch? Platform pumps or stilettos?? Peep-toe or bootie??? Oh wait… am I losing you? Not to worry… just take a look at her shoe collection and she what style of shoe she tends to buy the most of. Also, in case you did not know it before make sure you check her size!

Buying shoes are also tricky because what looks good does not always feel good, especially when it comes to high heels. So since you cannot test the shoes out for her, make sure you ALWAYS get a gift receipt just in case she needs to exchange them. What pair do think would look amazing on her? That pair… you know the ones that once she puts them on you might not make it out of the house for your dinner date?? That is the pair you should be buying!

The wonderful thing about shoes is that they come in SO many varieties, styles and colors! But even better than that you can ALWAYS find them on sale!! I guarantee if you come home with the right pair, not only will she will be smiling for days and calling her girlfriends to brag about you, but you are pretty much guaranteed to have a wonderful night… whether you make it out or not! Here are a few hot styles just to give you an idea and as with the dresses, do not be afraid of bold colors or metallic.

5) SALON

Many times, with our busy schedules, we women do not get to pamper ourselves and if we do, it is not nearly as often as we like. That is where you come in. Make Valentine’s Day an opportunity to send your lady to let someone take care of HER. Send her off to get her hair done or for a manicure and pedicure or maybe even a massage and facial. Depending on what deals are being offered, you may be able to get at least three of these services for under $100. Find out her favorite salon spot, if she has one, and without her knowing, find out what kind of deals are being offered there on services.. Most shops almost always offer holiday discounts. But again she does not need to know that part. She only needs to know that you love her and want her to feel extra special on this day of celebrating love.

Now if you are really (as we say) balling out, you can give her everything on this list! Start off with the pampering. Then plan to take her out to a lovely restaurant or better yet cook a romantic dinner for her at home and get dressed up for dinner. First, she will put on that sweet-smelling irresistible scent. Then she will slip on that sexy lingerie, followed that hawt dress and those gorgeous shoes… awww sookie, sookie! She will be feeling and looking amazing and you will be the reason why. Then, you get to impatiently wait and anticipate all through dinner, her getting out that dress. Leaving the heels on will be optional. And the rest, will be Valentine’s Day history!

Gentlemen remember, this is one day to make her feel extra special but Valentine’s Day should be 365 days a year. You can surprise her with one or more of these things at any time, just because. And for the ladies reading this who may not have a sweetheart this year, treat yourself to something extra for Valentine’s Day! After all, the greatest love is the love we give ourselves.

Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day and as always Happy Shopping!

It absolutely is and with that being said, it is the subject of this blog because here, we talk about fashion and any everything that has to do with fashion!!

A couple of weeks ago I was joining two of my girls for a ladies’ evening out. We had not seen each other in a minute and I had recently gotten most of my hair chopped off so it was the first time the girls were getting to check out the new do. While two of us were waiting for the third to arrive, we engaged in normal girl talk, discussing my haircut and also her decision to go very short, when the topic of natural vs. relaxed/wigs/weave came up. I mentioned that honestly, I was growing tired of all the fuss about us and our hair. Is is really that serious? Focus groups being set up and studies being done on the phenomena (allegedly) of black women deciding to “go” natural?? Really??? Knock it off! Before our conversation even got going we had both decided that all of this hoopla is yet another way to keep sisters divided… just like the light-skinned vs. dark-skinned, 100% black vs. mixed, good hair (whatever that is) vs. nappy hair, big booties vs. small booties (??) and so on, and so on. I am SO ti-red of the back-and-forth and the foolishness about our hair… among us and outside of us!

I am naturally a curly girl, or as I like to call myself, fuzzy-haired . For me, the decision to go back to natural was much more about convenience. I can clearly recall those childhood memories of mom combing, greasing and pressing (as we called it back then) my tangled fro, and me getting popped in the head with the brush AND comb because I was squirming, hissing and moaning. I was the epitome of a tender-headed child! I hated my hair. People would always compliment me on my hair… your hair is so pretty… ooh, you got tidal waves (too funny but it was said)… you got that good hair… and the list goes on. And I always thought… they reeaaaally have no idea how much I suffer with this mess!? They were loving it and I couldn’t wait to cut it off. When I say my hair is thick, I mean like Donna Summer, Chaka Khan straight 80′s disco queen thick and all I wanted was for it to be gone!

Prior to the age of sixteen, I only remember getting one hair cut in my life and that was because I had caught a ringworm from some kid and it was in my scalp. Gross I know but let’s not worry too much about that and get off topic! I remember asking periodically if I could get my hair cut and the answer was always NO! Well… I believe it was the day of my sixteenth birthday and I came down the steps and I got midway and I remember my older sister saying something like… “Oooh, you are gonna get in trouble!!” Why? Because I had cut about half of each of the two braids I had OFF… literally just cut the braids in half! And it turns out I didn’t get in trouble so within the week, I had that 80′s low on the sides and in the back and high and feathery in the top look, with a tail in the back! I thought I was dope and not only was the miserable, evil hair gone, but no more getting popped in the head with hair grooming tools!!

I kept the short hair into my twenties and then I decided to take it all off… I kept my hair on average about two inches in length and natural and I LOVED it!! Not too many girls were rocking that style so I felt unique and confident wearing it and best of all, I could jump in the shower, and go.. no fuss!

And then, in my early thirties… I got back together with my now husband who wanted me to grow my hair out. What is it with men and long hair? Ugh… sometimes I want to just put wigs on them and be like here, you have it because I don’t want it! Not only is he into long hair but he is not a fan of the natural curls. So, I grew it out and for me, growing it out eventually meant relaxing because I refused to spend up to four hours each time I had to wash, condition, blow dry, straighten, straighten and straighten again. Oh and I guess I forgot to mention that I was never a fan of the hair salon. Trust me I would have loved regularly having someone do my hair and doll me up… someone to take the pressure off of me! But not only could I not afford to go every week (and I would need to go EVERY week), I didn’t have the patience or the time to sit in a salon all day… I’m just not that girl.

Now remember, hair grows on average approximately 1/2 inch per month. I think mine grows faster than that so for me, that meant relaxing the new growth like every 1 1/2 – 2 months. Finally, I got frustrated, cut it off and started again… grew it back out, relaxed, got tired of relaxing, decided to go back to natural and then I got to that point… you know that point where you have like 3 inches of thick new growth, with stringy ends!? So not a good look… I looked like Raggedy Ann and I tried to just cut the relaxed hair a little at a time and let the natural come back in but again, frustration set in… I was just tired of all of it so I am back to square one… natural, almost bald, beautiful and loving it! And I must say, it is cost-effective and low-maintenance! But when it grows back, as long as it’s healthy, I will love it!!

These are just a few pics to not only show you my hair journey over the past two years, but also to show you the versatility… it’s about what I’m feeling and the state of mind I’m rather than what someone else thinks is appropriate or right for me.

So I’ve said all of that to say, this hair journey for me has been more about preference and convenience than anything else. It’s hair… currently it’s short and natural and I’ll let it grow back eventually. Right now, I love being able to get up, shower and go. I love my long, curly tresses but right now I love being able to go to the gym and work out without having to worry about my hair! Yesss!! Will I remain natural? I’m going to try because I believe my natural is beautiful… it’s what God gave me and I have finally learned to love and appreciate that. But while my hair is an extension of me, wearing it a particular way does not define me or my blackness. My style is very versatile… I may have a curly Afro one day, wear my hair wavy the next and straight the next. How I wear my hair is much more about my mood and my particular style on a given day than it is about my “consciousness” and many of my natural friends feel the same way.

I see the word conscious tossed around a lot when this topic is being discussed, as if you’re not black enough if your hair is not natural. I see a lot of ugliness about this on some blogs and posts and in response to different articles… messiness, all because of how a woman chooses or doesn’t choose to wear her hair? I don’t buy into the hype. I once believed that if I wasn’t rocking natural hair or locs, I wasn’t considered “black enough” because straightening and using chemicals to change my natural hair texture was “selling out”. And a very wise older woman told me that my blackness was not nearly as much about the way I wear my hair, the clothes I wear or the people I associate with, as it was about who I am on the inside, what I know and what I carry in my heart. And her words have stuck with me ever since.

Below are two photos of my big sis Roxanne. She is a professional, she is very aware of her history and her heritage and she is very much in love with her blackness. She wears it like a badge of honor, as I do. She grew her locs out for over a third of her life and they were beautiful… all the way down her back. And then, unexpectedly, a serious health issue caused her to have to cut her locs. So now, her hair has grown back and it’s still natural, but she gets it blow dried and flat-ironed. Does the fact that she gets it straightened make her any less conscious or any less proud of who she is? Absolutely not. It is about her preference and either way, she is amazing and beautiful!

I would like to also introduce you to some of my sister-friends and let them tell you their personal reasons for wearing their hair in the styles they do and they cover the gamut… natural, short, long, relaxed, extensions, wigs and weaves and they are ALL fabulous brown girls, confident and very aware of who they are. Let’s meet them!

Detric, affectionately known as Q, is an author, motivational speaker, graphic artist, student and ultimate hustler who *loves* her wigs and weaves and she rocks them fiercely! She makes it clear that no one’s opinion about her matters more than her own and I love that about her!

“Every piece goes with a mood or vibe I’m in. Sometimes I’m short and sassy, other times I’m sleek and sophisticated. I get to explore every facet of me and look good doing it!”

Tanya is the managing partner of her own communications and media consulting firm and she is very active in the community. She has rocked her natural hair for some years now but depending on her mood, may add a ponytail or extensions to her already beautiful hair, just for effect! Always classy and beautiful!!

“My hair is a reflection of me and both of my parents. My father’s hair was extremely thick, kinky, with a very tight curl. My mother’s hair was naturally thin, soft, with a natural french wave. She used very little product and no chemicals to change the texture. I like to wear my hair in a variety of ways — curly and straight, up and down, spiraled and wavy. I decided over a decade ago to stop relaxing my natural curl because I suffered horrible hair breakage with chemical relaxers. When I do not use straightening chemicals or even heat in my hair, it does not break and appears longer, healthier, and stronger. I sometimes add a piece in a similar texture to achieve the look desired. I do not typically add straight extensions because of my own length now. I am not my hair; however, my hair is absolutely a reflection of me — versatile!”

Dellice is my sistacousin . She is employed by the federal government and I love her like cooked food! She is a long-haired girl and when I say long-haired, I mean almost down to her behind and it is ALL hers and just as silky and beautiful as it wants to be. Not only is it all hers, but she relaxes and her hair is very healthy… little to no breakage or damage. Most of the time, if she’s not working or going out, you will find all of this in a ponytail and under a baseball cap!

“I like my hair because as someone who has no styling skills, length gives me variety! When I’m not feeling the whole hair thing there is always my all-time favorite… the ponytail!”

Ivy is currently working on her degree in Paralegal Studies. After working in city government for nineteen years, she is making some serious career-changing moves. She has a hectic school schedule right now and I so admire her drive and determination! She is loving her natural hair and she rocks it with style and the utmost confidence!!

“I chose my current hairstyle because it’s carefree, fun and versatile and takes away the biggest excuse for not working out! It also speaks to my non-conformity and sense of self. As India.Arie so eloquently and soulfully put it, “I am not my hair!!”

“Everything I do is a reflection of me. My home, my clothes, as well as my hair. I’ve been wearing my hair natural for 20 years, not as a hairstyle, but a lifestyle. When I stopped thinking ‘processed’ thoughts, I stopped eating processed food, then I stopped wearing processed hair… it was a natural progression.”

So yes, chemicals and harsh treatment can damage hair, but GOOD hair is hair that is healthy! So that means, take care of your hair!! Whether natural or relaxed, if you do not take care of your hair, it WILL suffer from damage, it WILL break off and it WILL fall out and taking care of your hair is as much about what you put INTO your body, as it is about what you put on your hair. If you are maintaining your own hair, do your research and make sure you are using the best products for your hair. Take texture, coloring, relaxing, applying heat, etc. and any hair damage into consideration when you purchase products and make sure you are using the right and the best products to keep your hair healthy. Make sure that your stylist or hairdresser is a professional and that taking care of your hair is not just something for them to do to earn a buck, it is a passion and a priority! If you are wearing weave or braids, make sure that it is not sewn or braided so tightly that it is pulling your edges out and breaking your hair off. And please remember that the weave needs to be redone and the wig needs to be groomed regularly! Some ladies do tend to forget. Most importantly, whether you are a naturalista, a weave and wig queen, or a relaxed Diva, don’t let anyone make you feel uncomfortable about your own personal hair choices… it’s YOUR hair whether you grew it yourself, or you paid for it ! And don’t down the next sister because of her choices.

ALL of the women featured here are talented, smart, confident, driven, sexy and gorgeous and we are so much more than our hair! Our BLACK is naturally *beautiful* and it is powerful!! We don’t wish to be judged on the texture or style or our hair… we want to be judged on how we contribute to the societies in which we live and the world at large. We are our sisters keepers and we just want to be happy loving ourselves, and each other!

Long time no write . I know… these ongoing computer issues are such a drag but I’m back now and hopefully this time, without interruption! If you’ve been reading the Just Jess page, you know that I have set some serious goals for 2012 and I AM going to achieve each and every one of them! But one in particular that I am really working on daily, is getting healthy and fit and remaining that way.

Now, I know this site is mainly focused on showing people how to look their best for less but looking good on the outside really means nothing if you don’t feel good on the inside. It all starts within and feeling good begins with being healthy… mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally healthy!! Today, I’m going to just share a little with you about my journey to physical healthiness and why my juicer and I have become BFF’s!

Anyone who knows me, I mean REALLY knows me, knows that I have never had a friendly relationship with raw vegetables. As a matter of fact, our relationship was non-existent! Salad?? That’s like a foreign word to me… I have never eaten one in my entire life. Yes, I know, weird right? But you heard me correctly… I have NEVER eaten a salad and I’m probably the one in one million who hasn’t. There is just something about the texture of raw veggies and cooked fruit that creeps me out. Oh and mayonnaise does too but that’s a whole other blog topic! My sister is the same way which is really weird because from what we’ve been told, our mother loved salad and ate it religiously when she was pregnant with us.

I love fruits like pineapple, grapes and watermelon but the only fruit I was eating semi-regularly was banana. And when I tell you I had the world’s WORST digestive system, I am not exaggerating! I remember days of my stomach being so bloated that my belly would look like I was six months pregnant… so not cute & sexy… and definitely not healthy! I could not eat what seems like anything or it would have my stomach feeling like someone was in there just doing flips and somersaults on my insides! And I dealt with this for years. My husband had always told me that I needed to eat more fruits and vegetables but I was like yeah, mmm hmm… I will, but never did and in the interim, I suffered . I never fed into the whole you are what you eat hype. That is until 2012 when I finally decided that enough was enough… I’m tired of suffering… tired of the extra pounds, the sluggishness, the cramps, the headaches, the indigestion, the high blood pressure… all of it!! I realized, with the help of a few others and a little bit of research, that I had t0 change the way I eat because if not, it would just get worse.

One day I was on Twitter and a friend first posted a pic of a bunch of fresh fruits, and then posted a pic of a glass of fresh juice. I swear, that was my ah-ha moment! That juice looked so delicious, healthy and inviting. I was like you know what… I’ve had this juicer sitting on my counter for like 2 years and I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve used it. I need to do this… today! And I did and I have juiced almost every day ever since, sometimes twice a day! It has literally changed my life!! I am juicing different combinations of fruits and some veggies. I am also researching to learn which foods provide which nutrient/health benefits so I can know more about what I’m eating and what I need to eat more of, specifically. For instance: Cranberries are considered a super fruit because of their high nutrient content and because they are high in antioxidants so I make sure I incorporate them a few times a week. Kiwi is very high in vitamins and minerals, especially Vitamin C and potassium so I make sure I add in some kiwi a few times a week. To learn more about the health benefits of juicing you can check out this site - http://www.fruitjuicefacts.org/ . Here are some pics of just a few of the juice combos I’ve tried.

YUM!!

If you’re more of a smoothie person than a juicer you can just add some low-fat yogurt and crushed iced for delicious, healthy and filling smoothies! Also, you can use the leftover pulp depending on what it is, for soups, stews, baked foods and other dishes!

I am also loving the steamed/sautéed fresh veggies! I still cannot bring myself to eat raw vegetables but I can eat steamed spinach, broccoli, roasted asparagus or sautéed cabbage all day now! I am gradually incorporating the veggies into the juicing process and I have to say, apple/celery/carrot has become a favorite. I’d like to get the cucumbers, kale, mustard green juicing going so in the meantime, it’s just a matter of trying combinations and finding what works and what doesn’t. One thing I have learned is that when using grapefruit and celery, use probably half the amount as anything else you’re using because those two tastes are definitely overpowering! I’ve had my lips puckered and face screwed up a couple of times over those two!!

When I said earlier that this has changed my life, I truly mean it! I don’t even feel right if I don’t juice each and every day! No more bloating and no more going to bed at night or waking up in the morning and feeling like crap! Thank God!! They say a hard head makes a soft behind and in my case, it made a jacked up digestive system but those day are o-ver. This is definitely a lifestyle change for me! Now does that mean I won’t have the occasional cupcake or bowl of spaghetti? Absolutely not… but I am learning to eat a whole lot more of what’s good for me and a whole lot less of what’s not and it is truly doing my body good! At the beginning of the week, the fruit and veggie drawers are overflowing and by the end of the week, they’re empty, mostly from me and I was eating less of these than anyone in the house… now I’m eating the most!! Wowzers!!

Here is another website that will give you more detailed information on the health benefits of pure fruit juice - http://www.helpwithcooking.com/healthy-eating/benefits-fruit-juices.html

Lastly, vegetables do not necessarily have to be eaten raw for you to get the health/nutritional benefits from them and and this site will give you info on the benefits of steaming vegetables – http://www.livestrong.com/article/349870-steamed-vegetable-nutrition/

If you’re thinking about juicing, don’t think about it any longer… DO IT!! I’m telling you… it will do you a world of good, especially if you’re having digestive issues! Happy and Healthy Eating!!

We all have body insecurities. Are your body issues keeping you from finding your sexy and keeping your confidence level at 5 instead of 10? I’ll share something with you. I hate my legs and I’ve pretty much always hated them! When I was younger, it was because they were too long and skinny… then early on in adulthood, I began to inherit my mother’s and aunts’ little spider veins… then, 3 babies later, it was the cellulite and the stretch marks on the thighs. I covered up my legs almost all of my adult life… no swim suits, no short dresses or skirts and shorts to the knee, if at all. Honestly, I didn’t even start wearing knee-length dresses on a regular basis until I hit 40 because I was so insecure! You talk about somebody with body issues? Yup… ME. Every time I looked at my legs in the mirror it was just ugh!! I would’ve died for a great pair of legs.

And then… I discovered 4 inch heels and support pantyhose!! OMG to the third power!!! I tell you… high heels and a great pair of pantyhose can give just about any woman super sexy legs! I actually get compliments on my legs now and will tell you… I would’ve never seen that coming! But the trick for me is… folks only see as much of my legs as I need them to see to pull off a particular look and whatever part that is, I’m going to make it look good! If that means a pair of support hose, with a skirt hemline just above the knee… or maybe a darker color pantyhose if I want to go shorter, then that’s what it is! And you won’t really be focused on my legs anyway because I’ll have on a dress that accents the waistline I’m fortunately still blessed with. I’ve learned how to wear what I want to wear by highlighting my body strengths and camouflaging the flaws and that is key to looking great in your clothes! And many times you will find out that those insecurities are a lot worse to you, than they are to other folks. We are our worst critics… I know I am definitely mine!

I’ve said of all this to say… don’t let those insecurities make you afraid to be a little daring and do things differently when it comes to your look! Yes… I have a high forehead and I’ve heard just about every forehead joke there is. I was told I should always wear bangs to cover it. But you know what? I’m not covering it up with bangs everyday… it’s there, it’s not going away so you’re going to learn to love it, like I have! The wide hips and booty I used to cover up because I didn’t want to draw attention to them… they get fitted into tighter jeans now because women are paying good money for this and I was blessed with it for free . I have learned to embrace it!

I have learned to love and embrace the real me and it’s something we all need to do. If there is something you want to change about yourself, then change it if you can. And if you can’t, then learn how to work it! One of the keys to looking great in your clothes is to draw the attention away from your problem area(s) or body part(s) that you would consider flawed. For instance – If you have a larger mid section, you don’t want to wear a tight-fitting shirt that will draw attention to it. Wear a loose, flowy-type shirt with a lower neck line that will highlight the great bust line you have. Or maybe you have great legs and no hips. In this case you could wear a shorter skirt to show off your lovely legs, but one with an A Line that will give the appearance of hips. Again… highlight your body strengths and take the focus away from the areas you are less comfortable with.

Lastly… start to live a little more… do something you’ve been wanting to do but for whatever reason, have been apprehensive. You may find that you love it and it can completely change the way you feel about yourself. I would hardly every put on a dress and never high heels. But in the last few years, that has completely changed and I love, love, LOVE dresses and heels… couldn’t live without them now! When I put them on I just feel ultra feminine, pretty and sexy and that confidence exudes from the inside. Do you have long hair but you’ve been wanting a short style? Go for it! do something different… something that you are doing for YOU… make YOU happy! Do you traditionally wear darker, dull colors? Do something different this year… incorporate some bright, bold colors into your wardrobe! I guarantee it will not only change the way you feel about yourself, but others will feel and appreciate your confidence and embrace it to! You never know, you just may inspire someone to make some changes too.

Just remember… you only have one life and a happy you, means a happy life. Don’t be afraid to shine! Make a change… go ahead… give yourself a confidence boost… it’s long overdue and you deserve it!!

Wow… it’s been almost 2 1/2 months since I last blogged!? I know you readers are probably wondering why the blogs just stopped suddenly and I do owe you an explanation because I truly appreciate you reading and following. Actually, I’m not even completely sure why myself but I know in part, I lost my motivation and reached a point where I was not feeling very inspired. This truly puzzled and bothered me because fashion always inspires me. This is something I do simply because I am passionate about sharing the information with people. But I would get an inspiration for a blog and no sooner than I would start writing, I would see something posted elsewhere that just felt too close to what I was working on and I stopped. I think I was starting to feel discouraged, like maybe I’m trying to re-invent the wheel here by offering information that may already be out there in some form or fashion, or that may soon follow what I put out. So this doubt really made me do some serious thinking about the site, the information I’m sharing, the delivery of that information and what direction I want to take the site in. And that made me realize some things and the greatest of those things is… that there is only one ME which means… it is MY thoughts, MY perception and how I transfer that perception to text that makes Frugal But Flyy! unique. Yes, there may be a thousand sites that offer fashion tips or sale info. or a blog on the basic necessities for a wardrobe but no one will deliver that information like me or my co-contributor, Tanya D. Ray will. So with that being said, I have been RE-inspired and there is lots in store for Frugal But Flyy! in 2012 and for you, the readers, there is lots of great information to come! I’m just going to continue writing about what moves me and hopefully, it moves you enough to keep reading !

Thank you for seeing the potential in this site and for sticking with us… we appreciate you! Tomorrow – 3 Outfits to Wow Them on NYE and new blog Jan 1!

wordpress plugins and themes automotive,business,crime,health,life,politics,science,technology,travel

Hello, hello FBF! fam!!

I’ve missed you!! It’s been two weeks since my last blog but I have been so busy this last couple of weeks, I just haven’t been able to stay focused long enough to get some writing in! I needed to write though because lately I have been so inspired by MEN and menswear that I needed to share.

There is nothing I love seeing (excluding a fabulous pair of shoes or a great pair of trousers), more than a well dressed, well-groomed man! And contrary to what many men may think, it doesn’t require taking out a loan to be able to build a great wardrobe! With some basic, classic and quality pieces and a few accessories, a gentleman can have a great fall wardrobe that will suit him for just about every occasion.

For a woman, every great outfit begins with the right undergarments – we need to wear undergarments that will accent our figures, offer support, and give our clothing a clean, smooth look and feel. I think to an extent, this also applies for men. If a guy is wearing a pair of slim-fit, flat front dress slacks and he has on a pair of bulky boxers, it’s going to take away from the smooth, stylish look he’s trying to achieve. Personally, I love boxer briefs because they give our guys the support they need, and no bulk. But a great pair of classic boxers is always sexy. I know there are several options for men when it comes to underwear but to me, the thought of a guy in a thong is just creepy and regular briefs, well… so juvenile and so not sexy. So below, I have given a few options for boxers – the slim fit boxer, the regular boxer and the boxer brief. There are also now several styles of boxer briefs, which offer different types of support: Calvin Klein is one of the best brands when it comes to men’s underwear and you can usually find them on sale in department stores like Macy’s and at Calvin Klein Factory stores for reduced prices. The regular boxers shown are Banana Republic which are also great, and they can be purchased at reduced prices in the Banana Republic Factory stores.

Okay gentleman, now that you have on the right underwear, you need to pick a proper t-shirt or undershirt to wear with that killer outfit and the style and color undershirt you wear DOES matter! Also, let me just say that I can’t stand to see a man in a dress shirt, with no tank or undershirt… it looks sleazy, especially in a business or formal environment. The style of shirt you’re wearing, whether it’s a collared shirt, round neck or v-neck, lightweight or heavier shirt, sweater… all of this should be taken into consideration because the wrong t-shirt can ruin your outfit. And another tip – your t-shirt should NOT be larger than your shirt. Here are a few options for you: The tank, which is great under pretty much any shirt, casual or dress, the v-neck t-shirt which can be worn under a button down or sweater, and the Henley which is great for layering, such as with a cardigan, or for wearing with a jacket like a sports or military-style jacket.

Once those basics are out of the way its time for your pants. Really, for a basic wardrobe, you just need three styles… a great pair of jeans, a casual pair of pants like khakis that can be dressed down or up and a great pair of dress slacks which can also be part of a suit. I didn’t include a suit in this post because it’s pretty much a given… EVERY man should own at least one great suit in black or navy and that suit should be tailored to fit his body. But back to the jeans… slim fit and straight are very popular right now and Levi’s have made a comeback! They vary in price but can always be found on sale. Kohl’s always has them! Banana Republic, Gap and other Factory/Outlet Stores like Ralph Lauren are great stores to find men’s casual pants like khakis, as well as dress slacks like the ones shown below, at very reasonable prices.

Next is the top. Button fronts like this one from Banana Republic are great, especially in the fall because you can dress them down or up. A button down with a t-shirt, a great pair of jeans and a leather jacket is makes for a great casual look. Take that same button down and pair it with a pair of slacks and a sports jacket and you have a great look for work. Sweaters are the same to the extent that you can dress them down or up. Throw on a sweater, some casual slim-fit khakis and a down vest and you have another stylish casual look. Put a brightly-colored cardigan on over a button down and add a patterned tie to give your plain old back suit some ooomph (yes, it’s a word because I said it )! sweaters and cardigans are great for layering. They also look great under sport coats and once the fall season really sets in, you will usually start to find them on sale at major retailers and outlet stores for a fraction of the cost. Sweaters are great items to buy end of season for the following year!

So now, your outfit is just about complete, you just need to add the right outerwear. A great quality leather jacket is always a staple for fall! I especially love it with a Henley, scarf and hat like a driving cap. The sport coat is another essential for the gentleman’s fall wardrobe. You can take a regular pair of jeans, and add a button front shirt, a stylish sport coat like this one from Amazon.com and a hanky to get a stylish look like the one below. Every man should also have a quality dress coat for the fall/winter. This is a great quarter length military coat from Kenneth Cole, found on Overstock.com. It’s classic and stylish and best of all, each jacket pictured below is priced under $120.00 either on sale or clearance.

Note gentlemen: Do NOT overlook consignment and thrift stores. You may be hesitant about buying pre-owned items or you may not think that you will find stylish of items in these types of stores but you will be surprised. It may just require you identifying a few good stores, and taking the time to really look through and find items that suit your taste, and give you the best deals for your money. Also, read my earlier blog on The Art of Thrifting, Parts 1 & 2.

And then of course, great shoes like these below from ALDO or boots like these from Kenneth Cole at DSW, and a few great accessories like this scarf from Bluefly.com or this driving hat from GAP will complete your great outfit! The first thing I notice about a man after his smile and the way he smells, is his shoes. A jacked up pair of shoes will destroy an outfit so gentlemen make sure your shoes complement your outfit and they complete the overall look you are trying to achieve. Make sure they are of good quality, they are polished and not scuffed up, the heels are not worn and if they require laces, the laces are not worn. Both the shoes and the boots pictured below are classic styles and both are priced under $100.00

Now… your outfit is complete but you’re not quite ready yet. Your finishing touch is a great cologne. A great smelling man… wow! Some years back, when I was single, I was out with friends and I noticed this guy across the room because he had such a great smile. Then, he walked by me and I just lost all sense of what was going on… he smelled so good that I was literally mesmerized for a minute! That’s the effect you want to have… where someone comes up to you and asks what fragrance you’re wearing because it smells so nice! My husband is a cologne fanatic… no less than 10 – 15 bottles on the dresser at any given time. Here are a few of his personal favorites right now, which I am recommending: Gucci Guilty for men (I have this for women and I LOVE it), Dolce & Gabbana, The One Gentleman for men and Bleu de Chanel. Always make sure you have the cologne on hand!

Gentlemen, you have your fall wardrobe together and you are ready to go out and conquer the autumn weather, and the world ! Having these few basic pieces will allow you to create multiple great outfits. And remember, you should also have accessories in your wardrobe like belts, neckties, cufflinks, handkerchiefs, at least one casual and one dress watch of good quality, and dress and casual socks that are NOT white! Once you have the basics down, you can build up a great wardrobe from there. You can also check our Frugal But Flyy! Facebook page via the link on this site, for men’s grooming and style tips! As always, Happy Shopping!!

Autumn has always been my favorite season. Winter is cool and it’s pretty when it snows, but only the first day. By day two, it’s icy, slushy and a mess. And once the temperature falls below 30 and the wind chill is -5… I’ll pass. Brrrrr! Summer is great but when it’s 95 and humid (wipes sweat from brow) and I’m laying in the house with the air on sixty eight and STILL sweating… I’ll pass. And spring, lovely spring. I love all that is fresh, new, bright, pretty and pastel about spring, but fall just does something to me.

All of those bold and wondrous hues of red, orange, purple and gold… ahhh… what a glorious sight to see, especially when I’m seeing those colors in leather, cashmere and suede! When it comes to fashion, fall fashions are my favorite. There is nothing that compares to the smell of a new pair of leather boots, or the feel of newly purchased from the boutique suede jacket that fits perfectly. And what feels better than a soft, cashmere scarf wrapped snugly around your neck? Only maybe those great-fitting denim jeans that you’ve been patiently waiting to wear. Yes… fall definitely does something to me!

I always anticipate fall because there are five items that I just can’t wait to wear and it just so happens that these five items are essentials for any wardrobe. The styles and colors best suited for you depend on your taste but I’ll show you some of my picks:

Blazers – Cropped, striped, boyfriend, military and more. A great blazer can take a plain pair of pants and shirt from okay to WOW! Make sure you consider the style and fabric of the jacket in comparison to the rest of your outfit to determine which look works best.

Trousers – Wide leg, straight, high-waisted, pleated… the styles are endless! Remember, different styles of trousers work for different body types so always try on beforehand to make sure a particular style is right for you before purchasing.

Boots – Booties, riding boots, wedges, stiletto, peep toe – there are so many boot styles this season and you use them to spice your outfit up, keep it cool and casual or to go bold and a pop of color!

Scarves – A scarf is one of the best accessories to add. Whether solid, print, long, short, silk or cashmere… a great scarf can make an outfit from simple, to chic in less than sixty seconds!

There are so many ways to take a simple fall wardrobe to fabulous, depending on your budget and sense of style. But a $25 scarf, will look just as great as a $325 scarf, it just depends on how you rock it! You make the clothes work for you, not vice versa. Also, you do not have to have tons of items in your wardrobe, to have a great wardrobe. The key is knowing how to be versatile and mix and match. You can wear a pair of black slacks with a blazer and a button-front one day of the week, and then with a cardigan and scarf another and no one will ever know. It’s all about how you put the look together. One key way to create many looks with a limited amount of pieces, is by accessorizing differently.

Fall is also great time to purge your spring and summer wardrobe. Once the weather changes and you know you’re done with your summer clothing for the season (except for those few transition pieces), go through your closet(s) and take those items that you know you’ll never wear or never wear again, and donate or consign them. Many places are now offering clothing swaps, which is also an option. Don’t hold on to clothes just for the sake of having more. But do make sure you have the essentials… these are the key to building a great wardrobe!

New York Fashion Week ran from Thursday Sept. 8th through Thursday Sept. 15th this year and as always, revealed some *FAB-U-LOUS* collections. I had every intention on attending Fashion’s Night Out in NYC so that I could at least be a part of the energy of New York Fashion Week, but first there was bad weather, then flooding in Jersey and then other issues so alas… I did not make it. I was not happy about that but between fashion websites, FB updates and tweets, I got to live vicariously through the words and pics of various bloggers and fashionistas .

I have viewed each collection and I wanted to spotlight some of my favorites, along with some looks that I love from each. If I had to sum up what I see in these Spring 2012 RTW collections in fifteen words they would be – feminine, soft, flow-y (yes, it’s a word because I say so!), bold, pastel, floral, print, tribal, safari, classic, chic, pretty, elegant, sheer and sexy!

Let me tell you though… narrowing this down was not an easy task! Sheesh!! I got down to twenty-nine faves and then I had to narrow it down again and then more and then AGAIN until I finally got to fifteen because I didn’t want this blog to go on for days! I chose looks that I could see myself in and I chose looks suitable for every occasion… looks I could wear for day hanging with friends to looks that I could wear to a black-tie affair and if I could own ALL of these pieces, it would be a step closer to heaven. But… since I am Miss Frugal But Flyy!, you know I will most definitely be looking for some of these looks for less and anticipating sales!!

Enjoy these beautiful photos my fellow fashion lovers!!

Badgley Mischka – Always beautiful and elegant! I’m loving the color combination and the style of this first dress… it’s wonderful and just makes me feel all fuzzy inside!

So there you have it folks… my picks and basically, if I were able to put together a wardrobe of 45 pieces, from 15 designers from the Spring 2012 RTW Runway Collections, this is what it would be! You can view all of the collections here at http://www.elle.com/Runway/Ready-to-Wear/Spring-2012-RTW.

London fashion week ends today so once I get a chance to view all of the collections, I’ll have my faves from those up. But in the meantime, keep getting your fall looks together! Tons of things are on sale and going on sale so Happy Shopping and I hope you are looking forward to the 2012 spring looks as much as I am!

Well folks, we know Jennifer Lopez is a master at keeping herself current, in the spotlight and paid! Jenny from the Block and her soon-to-be ex-husband Marc Anthony apparently inked a very lucrative retail deal with Kohl’s just days before their divorce papers were filed. They are just two of several celebrities to have affordable lines debut with major retailers this summer. Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony would also have been the first celebrity couple to have joint lines simultaneously released at a major retail store, but with the pending divorce, their collections both debuted separately at Kohl’s in-store and online on September 7th, and they are being marketed separately.

The Jennifer Lopez Collection features Home, Apparel and Accessories. As quoted from Kohl’s website, “The Jennifer Lopez collection channels the timeless allure of old Hollywood in a contemporary interpretation of classic, sexy glamour.” Here is a look at Miss Lopez in several items from her line, along with a few of the items that I like:

Faux-fur ribbed sweater coat retails for $84; Pleated Ponte Dress – $70.00; (HOTT!) Over-the-knee boots – $119.99

Greta Flap Cross-body handbag – $99; this super cute silver-tone cuff bracelet – $32 and the Old Hollywood Bedding Coordinates – $49.99-459.99.

ALL items in the collection are currently on sale for approximately 25% off! I’m not overly excited about this collection. The colors and the styles are pretty basic. There is some leopard print, which is hot this season, but I think I’m liking the bedding and the jewelry more than anything else. But knowing Miss Lopez, she has few more surprises in store for us! You can see the entire Jennifer Lopez Collection for Kohl’s at http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/ourbrands/jenniferlopez.jsp#slide=1&sub=0.

I am, however, a little more excited about The Marc Anthony Collection which includes Apparel, Accessories, Shoes. As quoted on the Kohl’s website, “Marc Anthony’s style recalls the elegance of an earlier era, a look that speaks to timeless style with a modern vibe.” Here is a look of him rocking ‘ items from the collection, along with a few more pieces that I liked:

Mr Anthony is looking pretty handsome in this pic and I’m loving the look… basic and comfortable, a bit rugged but still chic and sexy! Zip-Front Sweater – $100; Boots – $120

Military Trench Coat (which I love) – $180 and the Slim-Fit Flat-Front Dress Pants – $70.

All items in this collection are also approximately 25% off. I’m interested to see where his collection goes, especially with the dress clothes! View the entire collection here: http://www.kohls.com/kohlsStore/ourbrands/MarcAnthony.jsp#slide=1&sub=0.

The most anticipated affordable line to debut this summer was Missoni for Target. The mostly signature patterned 400-piece collection which includes clothing, shoes, accessories, bedding, luggage, electronics, bath & beauty items and more, debuted on Tuesday in Target stores and at Target.com. The demand online was so great that it crashed Target’s website and most items were sold out in the stores in under an hour. But it’s understandable… it’s not often that a major Italian fashion house such as Missoni comes to a retail store and allows consumers to purchase their high quality items at such a low cost so buyers were in a frenzy. The last time we saw hoopla close to this over a diffusion/affordable line was when Isaac Mizrahi debuted his line, Issac Mizrahi for Target in 2002 (one of the first diffusion lines) and that hype still cannot be compared to this! By the way I miss his line at Target… it was wonderful, especially the suits, dresses and slacks and especially when they went on clearance!! I checked Target’s website today and almost every Missoni item is still out of stock! WOW!! Here are some of the pieces I’m loving, especially the luggage which I think would make a very lovely gift (hint, hint if anyone who loves me is reading this):

Another affordable line to debut this summer from a celebrity, actually a trio of celebrity siblings, is The Kardashian Kollection at Sears which debuted online August 10th. The line includes Intimates, Women’s, Shoes, Jewelry, Handbags and other accessories.

I’m liking some of the Intimates and a few of the accessories but the collection overall is not really my speed. As for the clothing there’s black, mini, tight, leggings, some leopard print and it is all VERY Kardashian! Here are a few of the pieces:

Kardashian Kollection Women’s Shoe Dallas Black – $59.99; Kardashian Kollection Wire Wrapped Cuff Bracelet (which I really like) – $22; Kardashian Kollection Oversized Vintage Sunglasses With Gold Metal Detailing – $30.00

This Kardashian line is my least favorite of all of the ones I spotlighted today but I have a feeling it will be successful for them because it has their name attached to it and they have a way of turning everything they touch into gold! If you would like to view the entire collection, see it here at http://www.sears.com/shc/s/dap_10153_12605_DAP_kardashiankollection. ALL items are on sale for up to 31% off in-store and online but I don’t think any of these items will be in my closet, except maybe that bracelet. But I will be busy trying to get my Missoni items before the collection is poof… GONE !

As always, Happy Shopping!!
