The Wignall Museum/Gallery at Chaffey
Community College Presents Stasis, a site specific installation
by artist Adam Belt, November 16, 2002 - February 7, 2003. The exhibition
will open the Wignall’s fall/winter season. The one person
exhibition will feature five concrete pieces.

Belt’s work examines elements of nature as
they exist in a contained environment working one against the other.
The observer’s perceptions and expectations of the work and
materials are immediately challenged. Although he uses natural occurring
geological materials it is more about the state of being than geography,
“Time, entropy, creation and the unseen forces which shape
our physical world are my interests in art making. I consider myself
a facilitator setting up circumstances for these concerns to manifest
themselves… formal decisions also serve as a contrast to the
forms created by the inherent properties of the materials used…
I attempt to allow the subject of my art to create the work itself.”

The artist received his MFA form Claremont Graduate
University in 2001. He actively participates in exhibitions throughout
Southern California. Belt currently resides in Monrovia. He first
exhibited work in Inland Specific, a major group show presented
by a collaborative of six Museum/Galleries located in the San Gabriel
Valley. “I first met Adam through his work in the Inland Specific
project here at the Wignall, his work was fascinating both aesthetically
and conceptually. He is a promising young artist who will be an
important force in the art scene for many years to come,” retired
Wignall Gallery Director, Ginger Eaton said. "I am particularly
pleased that an exhibition catalogue with essay by noted art commentator
Peter Frank will be available at the Gallery throughout the exhibit,”
she adds.

The artists reception is Saturday, November
16, 7:00 – 9:00 pm. The artist will be present at an open
forum gallery talk on November 20, 2002, 7:00 – 8:30 pm.
A panel discussion with Belt and artists Angie Bray, Megan Geckler,
and David Minnery will be held January 27, 2003, 7:00 –
