TOPIC: Christian Coalition Distributes Partisan Election Literature
GUESTS: Rob Boston, Assistant Director of Communications for Americans United for Separation of Church and State
The Christian Coalition just held its "Road to Victory" Conference in Washington, D.C. The Christian Coalition was originally founded by Televangelist preacher Pat Robertson. Robertsons goal was to forge evangelical churches into a political machine to support favored candidates. According to my guest, Rob Boston, churches who receive literature from the Coalition should refuse to distribute it, as it is politically biased. Rob Boston is the Assistant Director of Communications Americans United for Separation of Church and State.
TOPIC: The Motorcycle Diaries
GUESTS: Review by Aura Bogado, clips from the film.
In 1952, two young Argentines, Ernesto Guevara and Alberto Granado, set out on a road trip to discover Latin America. Ernesto was a 23-year-old medical student specializing in leprology, and Alberto, 29, was a biochemist at the time. The man who would later be known around the world as El Che, wrote his journal, The Motorcycle Diaries. Now, based on the journals of both Che Guevara and his friend Alberto Granado, Brazilian filmmaker Walter Salles has made a film about the journey across Latin America. Its called The Motorcycle Diaries and its currently showing at one theater in Los Angeles. The film stars Gael Garca Bernal as Ernesto Guevara and Rodrigo de la Serna as Alberto Granado. Well play some clips from the film and what the actors and film makers had to say about it.

Uprising co-producers Thatcher Collins and Aura Bogado saw the Motorcycle Diaries. Aura Bogado shares her movie experience with us.
TOPIC: Ambassador Hotel Battle
GUESTS: Jon Perez, President of United Teachers of LA
The historic Ambassador Hotel, where Hollywood stars mingled and Bob Kennedy was assassinated, may soon be turned into a school serving mostly low-income students in crowded downtown neighborhoods. The $318 million plan must be approved in the coming months by the Los Angeles Unified School District, and comes at the end of more than a decade of debate over the shuttered landmark. Under this plan, the hotel will be partly razed, saving some of its more notable features.

Last week Los Angelinos gathered at the Ambassador Hotel, many of them including John Perez, to rally around the construction of a new school. But there were also representatives of those who want to conserve the hotel. David Berman spoke at the event his speech was recorded by Grace of The LA Sound Posse for Uprising.
TOPIC: Peace Candidate Running for Congress
GUESTS: Philip Koebel, Running for Congress.
While there is a little over a month left before November 2nd, much attention is being paid to the Presidential election. Today we turn to a local race for Congress. Philip Koebel, running with the Green Party, is facing Democratic incumbent Adam Schiff for the 29th District of California. The 29th District covers Alhambra, Altadena, Burbank, Glendale, Griffith Park, Monterey Park, Pasadena, San Gabriel, South Pasadena, and Temple City. Adam Schiff was the co-sponsor of the USA PATRIOT Act. We invited Adam Schiff to join us, and even offered to work around his schedule. Unfortunately he was too busy.
