More Information : Structure for 2-Year Program and Structure for 3-year Program
-
2-year program
- All students are required to take software lab (CS699, 8 credits, sem1 ), seminar(CS694, 4 credits, in sem1or sem2) and communications skills courses(HS791, 2 credits + CS792, 4 credits, in sem2).
- Apart from these three compulsory courses, students are required to do *8* elective courses and one institute elective course (total *9*electives) during their MTech.
- Institute elective has to be a PG level course:
- Any course announced as an institute elective qualifies as an institute elective for the CSE department, provided:
- It is not offered by CS/EE/Math/Stat, and also
- Course content does not overlap with CS/EE/Math/Stat areas.
- Any course not offered by CSE/EE/Math/Stat department, subject to approval faculty advisor can also be considered as institute elective)
- Any course announced as an institute elective qualifies as an institute elective for the CSE department, provided:
- In addition to course work, students are required to complete an MTech project (MTP). Stage-1 project has 50 credits (registration in sem2, work begins end of sem2, evaluated in October of sem3) and Stage-2 project has 40 credits (registration in sem4, work continues post October of sem3, evaluated during May/June right after sem4). The MTP guide has to be within the CSE department, although co-guides outside department are permitted.
- In the first year of MTech, students should complete the three compulsory courses (CS699, HS791+CS792, CS694) and at least 5 CSXYZ elective courses (this can include at most one CSE RnD project CS691). These are minimum requirements.
- Among the *8* non-Institute elective courses, 5 have to be from CSE, 3 can be from CSE + EE + Math+Stat (or IEOR with permission from faculty advisor).
- Students would not be allowed to register for more than 40 course credits in any semester (excluding MTP credits). Students cannot register for less than 18 credits in any of the first two semesters. For semesters III and IV, they must register for at least 6+12 or 12+6 credits.
- Students can do at most 2 CSE RnD courses during the entire program. These RnD courses (CS691/692) will need a guide within department. Outside department RnD courses are not permitted, though a student can do a CSE RnD with a co-guide from outside department.
- At most two CSE XYZ UG Courses are permitted for fulfilling the 9 course norm, limited to a maximum of one course in each semester.
- The CSE-department policy is that MTech students in CSE cannot tag non-CSE non-PG courses as electives (neither institute electives nor departmental electives).
- Recommended: It is highly recommended that students finish at least 7 of the 9 electives within first year and leave at most 2 electives to second year. This will permit students to focus better on their MTech project which has higher number of credits.
