2005-11-15 : Shetal Shah (Ph.D. student), has won the IBM IRL Outstanding Research Scholar award for 2005.

2005-10-29 : The IIT Bombay Team consisting of Nitin Gupta, Chinmay Karande and Sudeep Juvekar has won the ACM ICPC regional finals held in Kolkata.

ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest (ACM ICPC) is the largest computer programming contest in the world. The ACM ICPC is an activity of the ACM that provides college students with an opportunity to demonstrate and sharpen their problem-solving and computing skills.

The ACM ICPC Asia Regional Contests invite Asian students to meet, establish friendships and promote fair competition in programming. There are eleven sites in Asia region.

IITB's winning team will participate in the world finals which will be held in USA in April 2006.

The Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) was established in 1987 to promote the advancement of and excellence in the practice of engineering and technology and the related sciences and disciplines. It is a 'Peer' body of the most distinguished engineers from the entire spectrum of engineering profession in the Government, R&D Laboratories, Academia, Services and Industry.

With a view to promoting the pursuit of excellence in the field of Engineering, the Academy has instituted INAE "Young Engineer Award" and is implementing it since 1996. This is a very prestigious award of the Academy. The award is finalized by a committee of distinguished Fellows of INAE after a very rigorous national level scrutiny.

2005-07-22 : Rukma P. Verlekar (M.Tech-2) awarded scholarship by Goa government
22nd July 2005 - A student of the department - Ms. Rukma P. Verlekar (M.Tech-2) has been chosen under the "Goa Scholars Scheme" offered by the Goa government. Under this scheme, Rukma will receive a Rs. 2 Lakh per year scholarship.

2005-06-01 : Harsh Jain wins IBM Linux Scholars Challenge, 2004
Harsh Jain, a third-year undergraduate student was among the 20 students judged winners of the IBM Linux Scholars Challenge, 2004. Winners will receive an IBM laptop from the ThinkPad T-Series.

2005-04-07 : CSE Undergraduates reach ACM 2005 Finals
A team of undergraduate students Nandan Dixit, Parag Agarwal and Piyush Prahaladka--from IIT Bombay is participating in the world's most prestigious computer competition, the World Finals of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC), sponsored by IBM. This year's regional competitions drew over 3,150 teams from 71 countries around the world, but only seventy-eight teams emerged as finalists earning coveted spots at the 2005 World Finals, April 3-7, 2005 in Shanghai, China.

SecNet 2005, organized by the Computer Science and Engineering Department of IIT-Bombay, is a 3-day Security workshop providing its participants the spectrum of the latest security technologies, from firewalls to biometric authentication schemes to enterprise security techniques.
Interactive lab sessions, demonstrations and talks by eminent speakers on varied topics related to security, are held during the workshop.

2005-04-04 : Workshop on Morphology 2005
The importance of morphology has recently been recognized as critical in the context of MT, IR, IE and such applications, especially for Indian Languages. Considering this, a one-day workshop on Morphology is planned at IIT Bombay on 31st March, 2005. The main aim of the workshop is sharing of experience and evolving solutions and future directions. The hope is to bring together researchers working on/interested in subtleties of morphology. An intensive interaction between theoreticians and practitioners is expected. The workshop will provide a comprehensive perspective to both linguists and computer scientists involved in the field of computational linguistics.

2005-03-27 : CSE Students make it to top 50 of Google India Code Jam
Nitin Gupta, Chinmay Karande and Harsh Jain (third year undergraduate students), were among the top 50 Finalists in the Google India Code Jam 2005, held at Banglore on 27th March 2005. They bagged positions 15, 20 and 26 respectively.
