2010-11-11 : Natural Language Processing group of CSE Dept. to organize the Indowordnet workshop.
A one day workshop covering the foundations and applications of Indian language wordnets will be held on 8th December, 2010 at IIT Kharagpur. The event is organized by the NLP group of CSE Department, IIT Bombay and is collocated with International Conference on Natural Language Processing (ICON 2010 ).

2010-11-11 : Prof. Pushpak Bhattacharyya to deliver the keynote address at the International Conference on NLP (ICON 2010).
ICON is the flagship Conference on Natural Language Processing held every year in India. The keynote speech by Prof. Pushpak Bhattacharyya will explore the relationship between the fields of NLP and IR both of which deal with text, with special attention to sense disambiguation and information retrieval.

2010-09-12 : Department welcomes new faculty member, Nutan Limaye.
Nutan Limaye joins the department as an Assistant Professor. Her research interests include algorithms and complexity theory and in particular, small space algorithms and circuit complexity. She graduated from the Institute of Mathematical Sciences, Chennai and before joining IITB was a Visiting Fellow at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, TIFR .

2010-07-05 : Prof. Pushpak Bhattacharyya appointed Associate Editor of ACM Transaction on Asian Language Information Processing
The journal ACM Transaction on Asian Language Information Processing (TALIP) is a prestigious forum for reporting research on Natural Language Processing, with emphasis on languages of Asia spoken by more than half the humanity.

Prof. Pushpak Bhattacharyya has been appointed Associate Editor of this important forum for the period July 1, 2010 to December 31, 2011.

2010-05-08 : Workshop on Essential Abstractions in GCC, 5th--8th July 2010.
GCC Resource center plans to conduct its annual workshop on Essential Abstractions in GCC from Monday 5th July to Thursday 8 July 2010. This year, the workshop is organized to cover introductory topics on the first day so that people with experience in GCC can join from the second day. 2010-04-21 : IITB NLP research group's top performance
ACL 2010 (NLP's rank-1 conference) has accepted: (1) "All Words Domain Adapted WSD: Finding a Middle Ground between Supervision and Unsupervision": Mitesh Khapra, Anup Kulkarni, Saurabh Sohoney and Pushpak Bhattacharyya (2) "Multilingual Relevance Feedback: One Language Can Help Another": Manoj Chinnakotla, Karthik Raman and Pushpak Bhattacharyya. Prior to this, the following was in SIGIR 2010 (IR's rank-1 conference): (3) "Multilingual PRF: English comes to help": Manoj Chinnakotla, Karthik Raman and Pushpak Bhattacharyya. (2) is a generalization of (3), in the sense that it investigates what languages other than English can assist relevance feedback, and in particular the effect of in-family languages. Lastly, IITB's NLP team comprising of Saurabh, Anup, Lipta, Meera and Mitesh have secured the first two ranks in SemEval competition (30 participant teams internationally) for word sense disambiguation.

Prof. Amitabha Sanyal has been appointed as the new Head of Department. Outgoing Head of Department, Prof. Abhiram Ranade held the position from January 2007 to February 2010.

2010-02-20 : Rijurekha Sen and Prashima Sharma win 4th prize at Microsoft Techvista'10 for their poster 'Horn-Ok-Please'
The poster by Rijurekha Sen and Prashima Sharma titled "Horn-Ok-Please" has won the 4th prize in this year's Microsoft TechVista.
