Title: Probabilistic and Geometric Methods in Learning: A Dynamical Systems Approach
Prof. Arnab Basu, IIM Bangalore
Date & Time: January 25, 2017 15:00
Venue: Lecture Hall, B Block, 03rd Floor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Kanwal Rekhi (KReSIT) Building
We talk about some problems in learning which this speaker has worked upon as well as are under investigation currently. In particular, we hope to discuss two examples: 1. Learning estimates of risk-sensitive cost functions. 2. Learning geometric structures of data. The tone is theoretical though links to possible applications to large-scale data analysis can be hopefully inferred.
Speaker Profile:
Arnab Basu works as an Associate Professor of Decision Sciences and Information Systems at IIM Bangalore. He has done a Ph. D. in Computer and System Sciences from TIFR and a B. Tech. (H) in CSE from IIT Kgp. His main research interests are in the areas of Learning Theory, Multi-Agent Systems and Control Theory.
