Web 2.0, Semantic Web and Web Services: Next Generation Web
Dr. Srinivas Padmanabhuni, Infosys
Date & Time: January 9, 2007 13:30
Venue: Kresit Lecture Hall
Abstract:
The first generation of WWW (world-wide-web) was founded on the notion of static internet content, with the primary role of information dissemination. However, heavy dependence upon the two-way request response paradigm, and poor User Interface capabilities of HTML limited the penetration of web in providing a rich client side platform. Likewise, lack of capability of association of meaning with web pages based on HTML restricted any reasoning or inferencing possibility of the web. Further, lack of automation in web pages based on HTML requiring parsing of pages to get exact functional details of pages, restricted web as a medium for application automation. The limitations as described are currently being addressed respectively by the three trends characterizing the next generation web technologies, namely Web 2.0, Semantic Web, and Web Services. In this talk, we shall cover briefly these three next generation web trends, and explore how they are evolving the next generation web. In particular we shall also present in brief the interplay of these trends in form of Semantic Web services, and Web 2.0 based Services.
