Software+Services The Way Forward
Mr. Bill Vegte, Corporate Vice President (Windows Business Group), Microsoft Corporation
Date & Time: July 12, 2007 11:15
Venue: SIC-301 classroom, C Block,03rd floor, Kanwal Rekhi Building
Abstract:
The combination of ever-more-abundant bandwidth, increasingly powerful processors, and inexpensive storage is broadening the choices for designing, deploying, and using software: in devices, in computers, on servers in corporate data centers, and on the Internet. Business solutions can be delivered and consumed in all of these ways-either singly or in combination-to provide the best user experience and the most business value. Software + Services-meaning delivering software over the Internet-is increasingly popular for its ability to simplify deployment and reduce customer acquisition costs. Bill's session will introduce the concept for Software+Services, it's importance and impact in the coming years and Microsoft's bets on Software+Services model.
Speaker Profile:
As the Corporate Vice President for the Windows Business Group, Bill Veghte oversees the Windows business, ensuring that Windows continues to unlock the power of the PC for more than 800 million customers worldwide and through collaboration with Microsoft's broad partner ecosystem, Windows remains the de facto platform for innovation in hardware, software and services. Veghte has spent more than 17 years at Microsoft in a variety of development, sales and marketing positions across the company. Most recently, Veghte was responsible for Microsoft's North American business, leading that region to an 18% increase in overall customer and partner satisfaction and growing the business by over $2 billion in top-line revenue in 3 years. Previously, Veghte was a Corporate Vice President in the Windows Server Group, where he oversaw development and marketing of several award-winning server products, including Windows Server 2003 and Small Business Server 2003, and helped shape Microsoft's overall position on open source software. Prior to that, Veghte has led Microsoft's embedded and appliance business, managed the development of Windows 98 and was one of the founding members of the Microsoft Office team. Veghte graduated with honors from Harvard University, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in East Asian studies. He joined Microsoft directly out of college drawn by the people, the impact that software could have in helping people realize their potential, and the Northwest (he thought Sasquatch was real). His 17 years in a wide variety of roles have given him broad set of contexts and experiences and reinforced his passion for technology and his commitment to people. This passion extends into the community where he serves on several boards including nPower (www.nPower.org) which is dedicated to putting technology know-how in the hands of non-profits so they can serve their mission better. Veghte lives in Seattle, is an enthusiastic husband/parent of two boys and an avid outdoorsman who loves hiking and skiing.
