The telecom industry is currently undergoing a massive transformation because of larger industry forces, namely deregulation and globalization, resulting in increased competition and rapidly dropping rates. This presentation will provide a broad overview of the business aspects of telecommunications and computer network technologies prevalent in the US. In the US, there are general trends toward continuing deregulation and encouraging competition. On the other hand, international telecom environment often appears to favor institutionalized subsidies, centralized management, and pricing policies at the expense of efficiency. The goal is to help the audience gain a comprehensive understanding of telecom applications and implications for business. This seminar will encourage the audience to think about systems in ways that will continue to serve us well as technology continues to evolve. Part of the seminar will also focus on curriculum update and effective teaching/learning techniques to enhance critical thinking and problem solving skills of students. There will be time for discussion, a question-and-answer session and one-on-one conferences. For inquiries contact varsha@cse.iitb.ac.in
