Channel Selection in Dynamic Spectrum Access Network

Abstract:
We consider a cognitive radio-based wireless mesh network which constitute a secondary system that is capable of dynamically accessing the spectrum used by the primary system. Interference temperature model is used to define occupancy and availability of a channel. In this talk we discuss two approaches to calculate channel availability based on Interference temperature model. First a cooperative algorithm is proposed for computation of available channels by mesh nodes. Based on the channel availability, a link cost metric is then proposed. In the second approach, a hidden Markov Model (HMM) based channel modeling is used to predict channel availability. Preliminary results of HMM-based model is discussed.
