Title: Mobile Data Mining - From Theory to Applications
Dr. Shonali Krishnaswamy, Monash University, Australia
Date & Time: September 16, 2008 14:00
Venue: SIC305, ā€˜Cā€™ Block, 03rd floor, Kanwal Rekhi Bldg.
Abstract:

The growth and proliferation of mobile and embedded devices presents an exciting new opportunity for intelligent data analysis. The range of applications in this domain include: Road Safety, Environment/Habitat Monitoring, Patient Monitoring/Mobile Healthcare, Real-Time Business Intelligence for the Mobile Workforce etc. This talk will present our pioneering contributions in the area of Mobile and Ubiquitous Data Stream Mining in terms of developing the first suite of resource-aware light-weight data stream analysis algorithms. The light-weight algorithms autonomously adapt their functioning according to varying computational constraints, data rates and application constraints.

The talk will present both the theoretical underpinnings for Mobile Data Stream Mining as well as three case studies which involving real-world application of these techniques with the Centre for Accident Research and Road Safety - Queensland (CARRS-Q), Insurance Australia Group (IAG), Department of Primary Industries (DPI), the Centre for Cardiovascular Research (Monash University) and IM Medical Pty. Ltd. The talk will also present an overview of the open source mobile data mining system that is currently being developed at our labs.
