Title: Context Aware Web Services
Dr. N. C. Narendra, IBM India Research Lab, Bangalore
Date & Time: October 15, 2008 09:00
Venue: SIC 205, ā€˜Cā€™ Block, 02nd floor, Kanwal Rekhi Bldg.
The traditional view of Web services in an SOA is that of software components operating as per the traditional trigger-response pattern, leading several observers to cynically comment that Web services are no better than distributed objects. In this talk, I will present our ongoing work on Context-aware Web services. Context-aware (or Contextual) Web services elevate Web services to more intelligent components, whose behavior can be modified based on the context in which they execute. This context can include several factors, such as their own internal states, environmental context, and the context of the compositions in which Web services participate. This talk will introduce Contextual Web services, and also describe the different dimensions and research directions that form part of this new and exciting research topic.
