In this talk we look at an overview of how a feature animation studio operates, deconstruct the stages of the animation process, look at examples of how science and technology permeate each of these stages (such as character dynamics, clothing simulations, volumetric explosions, global illumination rendering, distributed memory processing, asset tracking software), and what are the opportunities available? Examples will be drawn from several DreamWorks Animation releases including Shrek, Madagascar, Over the Hedge, Monsters Vs. Aliens, Kung Fu Panda, and How to Train your Dragon.
