Mr. Deepak Suchde,
Date & Time: June 18, 2014 17:15
Venue: Room no. SIC 201, C Block, 02nd Floor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Kanwal Rekhi (KReSIT) Building
Natueco farming is a new look at an ancient principle used by nature to evolve the fertility of soil. This approach is popularly associated with “Amrit Mitti” and its increasing use by urban farming communities in Mumbai and elsewhere. It is a natural way of farming which produces nutritious (and “holistic”) food with the minimum use of natural resources. Nutritious food is food that provides a balanced dose of macronutrients and micronutrients. It aids water and energy conservation, enriches soil fertility lifelong, uses local resources and hence is the best solution for farmers in India. Natueco farming addresses modern day problems of increasing “chemicalisation” of food and the consequent diseases caused by this food. Other problems are: the malnutrition of children, overuse of natural resources for farming, isolation of man from nature, and so on. The speaker shares work on the ground as case studies and exhorts us to take a re-look at the domain of agriculture given our new insights. He poses the problem: “How can we feed ALL our people AND improve our standard of living AND conserve our natural resources -- ALL AT THE SAME TIME?”
