I ran some short and long selftests on a WD blue SSD. I could see the test results as expected immediately after completion. Some weeks later I checked the smart status again. No test (with success or fail outcome) was logged on the SSD.

The last and only SMART selftest result was logged many months back at age 0 hours. Result of all SMART tests run after that (at least 10 tests) are not to be found. Is the SSD going going gone? I haven't seen read errors in syslog but 3-4 times after a power cycle the SSD came up with an empty partition table and unable to run SMART commands. Another power cycle fixed it (for the time being). Most of these were after unplanned short power cuts.

Anyone else face this or something similar?

PS: I just ran selftest again, and the log shows this disturbing contradiction:

9 Power_On_Hours 0x0032 100 100 --- Old_age Always - 5356
Num Test_Description Status Remaining LifeTime(hours) LBA_of_first_error
# 1 Extended offline Completed without error 00% 0 -

Note the lifetime is 5356 (hours) but the test I just ran is logged at lifetime 0. I suspect the next power cycle will wipe out this selftest memory.
