Abstract

Abstract: Security is of paramount importance in E-Business applications. In a multi-tiered web application, end-to-end security can only be provided by securing each tier. Securing the database can be implemented in the business or database tiers or both. We describe the important E-Business case study of Application Service Provider-based Supply Chain Management. The database schema and security requirements in the form of access control rules are first spelled out. Common user queries of relevance to supply chain optimization are listed and we investigate the use and shortcomings of the Virtual Private Database for this application.
