Aritmetic and Logical Operations

The CPU (processor) can ``operate'' on words read from memory.

What type of ``operations''?

• 1's complement (change 1001 to 0110)
• Add (without final carry) of two words
  • 1011 + 1101 = 1000 (i.e. 11 + 13 = 8! figure this out!)
• Bit-wise AND of two words
  • 1011 AND 1101 = 1001

These can be done in the ``hardware''
