Description:

The Coca-Cola E-Learning Centers are equipped with computers providing Internet and e-mail access, as well as software, books, and air conditioners to create comfortable, exciting learning environments, both during and after school hours. They have set up a website and intranet to enable on-line communication and dialogue between all Centers and program administrators. It also benefits a new generation of teachers and students through the innovative, fun and locally relevant use of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT).

The project also involves ICT skills training for school teachers who, for example, are using the e-learning centers and software to teach such subjects as Math, local language, English and History. Farmers and other local community members can also use the Internet facilities to access such information as weather conditions and agricultural commodity data.

Together with local partners and local communities, Coca-Cola is spreading the joy and promise of e-learning to Asia's young people, helping to prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of the Information Age.

They have established an E-Learning Center of Excellence at the School of Education Studies of the Science University of Malaysia in Penang to serve as a research and development center for the project and to develop more teaching materials.

These "e-learning" centers  are being replicated in other parts of the world

  • In the rural Peninsular Malaysia area over 5,000 students and teachers were benefited.
