Our Corporate Bureau
Mumbai, March 9: The Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) on Thursday late evening served a notice on the Dabhol Power Company (DPC) for the violation of various pollution control norms and thereby, has asked the company to immediately stop the power generation during the ongoing trial runs for the block-b of phase-II (722 mw). The closure notice has been served under section 33(A) of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974 and section 31(A) of Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1987. MPCB member secretary KH Mehta told The Financial Express that although the DPC has obtained the consent to establish the phase-II in 1996, it had not bothered to take necessary clearance for generation of phase-II. A DPC spokesman had confirmed that the company had received the notice and will look into the matter and send the necessary reply to the MPCB shortly.Copyright © 2001 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
