IRISS is visualized as a seminar in which select research institutes participate by invitation. Unlike a conference where papers to be presented are selected by Programme Committee, presentation in IRISS is by nomination. Each participating institute nominates

(a) Two students who will present their work

(b) Few other students who will attend the seminar without presenting their work.

(c) A faculty co-ordinator.

Each participating institute is expected to take care of the travel expenses of its participants. Local hospitality will be provided by IIT Bombay.
