Announcements ( July 27)

1. Many students have registered for CS 701, Software Lab
course which is of 10 credits and is an old course. All
of you should drop CS 701 and register for the course :

CS 699 Software Lab which is of 4 credits and is the
new course designed for your batch.

2. Come to A1 today (July 27th) at 5:00pm for a brief on the
policy of seminar allocation. The policy of the department
is given in seminar-allocation-policy.

3. CS 616 has been moved to slot 6 with immediate effect.
Also CS 621 (AI course) has been moved to slot 1. Any
problems arising out of these movements should be brought
to my notice immediately.

5. Clarification on queries regarding registering for IT
courses in lieu of CS courses:
You are permitted to take a few courses outside the dept,
but 5 courses must be from CS curriculum.

My advise is (i) to take atmost 3 courses from outside in the
entire program, (ii) in the first semester, do not take more than
2 courses from outside.
This will weaken your background in CS and is likely to affect
your prospects in getting a M Tech project of your interest.

To summarize :

1. Decide on a few areas you would like to specialise ( 2-3),
and take courses that strengthen your base in those areas.
2. Choose your seminar in one of these to get a feel of its
research problems and methodology.
3. While trying to narrow down your interests, find a match
with the research interests of the CSE faculty.
4. Your M Tech Project is expected to be with a CSE faculty,
no match right from start will leave you an orphan.
