Policy for Seminar Allocation

Minutes of Faculty Meeting held on Wed. Feb 16th, 2005
------------------------------------------------------

1. The recommendation of DPGC is to make a list of topics available
before allocation was approved.

2. It was decided to issue a list of seminar topics to students soon
after they register for it in the first semester, dropping the 1st
round of 'mutual consent without call for topics'.

3. It was also decided that the guide must be from the department.
Co-guides may be added only in case of joint work. Co-guides from
the department are encouraged.

4. The above was also recommended for MTP allocation.

5. The changes were made on the observation that a long mutual consent
round without call for topics leads to race for allocation amongst
students and in absence of global information on mtp topics. It was
also noted that students tend to turn to other departments if
allocation rounds are not started early in the department.

6. The new procedure for seminar and MTP allocation is summarized
below:

* List of topics -> presentations -> mutual consent -> forced
pairing
* The list of topics to be displayed early.
