Guwahati lies in the heart of Assam, one of the most beautiful regions of India. The region provides a rich combination of greenery, scenic beauty, flora and fauna and the cultural treasures of the people that inhabit it. The institute is located in the banks of the mighty river Brahmaputra. Crossing this grand river on a country boat is itself a joy ride. Visit Kamakhya Temple, Balaji Temple, State Meuseum, Umananda Temple, Kalakshetra and in the evening go for Brahmaputra River cruise.

National Park / Wild Life Sanctuary
Assam has five national parks including the World Heritage Sites of Kazirnaga and Manas, and 20 Wildlife sanctuaries. The great Indian one-horned rhinoceros is one of Assam's most famous denizens.

Northeastern states: at a glance

Climate
Supporting the state's abundant wildlife and luscious vegetation are the monsoons which stretch from late May to September, but there are intermittent rains even in the winters. Winters begins in late November and continues till February. Winter mornings in most parts of Assam are marked by dense fog giving the land an aura of ethereal beauty.
