The first PTA executive committee meeting in 2004-2005 was held on
Principal’s chamber on 5th April. It commenced at 3:00 pm and ended
at 5:45PM. The chairperson and Principal of KVIIT Powai, Ms. Sudeep
Arora welcomed the new members of the committee.


DECISION ITEMS:

- As per the guidelines given by KVS the committee unanimously elected
the following as office bearers Chairperson (ex officio) Sudeep Arora,
Vice Chairperson: Jaya Khilar, Secretary: Sharat Chandran, Joint
Secretary: Manjuli Sharma, Members-At-Large: Shyama Iyer, Alok Goyal
and Rekha Shrivastava.

- It was decided to increase interaction among PTA members by 
    + creating a web site (www.iitb.ac.in/kviit), (Sharat)
    + creating a discussion form (groups.yahoo.com/kvpta) and email
    subscription list  (Sharat)
    + Translating circulars in languages other than English and putting
    these up in the main location of the campus (Shyama Iyer)

- For science teaching in XIth and XIIth, IIT professors are requested
to volunteer to give extra classes

- Old uniforms and books will be appropriately distributed. Parents,
please donate (Jaya Khilar, Manjuli Sharma)

- Since CCA has been discontinued in the secondary section, it will
be good if some days like 26 Jan, 15 Aug, or any 2nd Sat.  of the
month could be utilized for conducting some activities for the senior
children.  Parents are requested to volunteer.


INFORMATION ITEMS:

- Strength of students: 779 primary, 801 secondary, 247 higher secondary.

- Parents can meet the primary teachers on Saturdays and secondary
teachers on Fridays with prior appointment from the teacher concerned
(please send a note). Parents can meet the Principal on any working
days between 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM.

-  The Principal explained that the school had taken steps to improve
the ambiance and infrastructure of the school. These include

+   Biotechnology Lab
+   Front Garden with fountain
+   Botanical Garden:

+ Spoken English, Dance and Karate classes have been introduced. Work
on a Badminton court and a new cycle shed is already in progress with
the help of Estate office of IIT.


DISCUSSION ITEMS:

- Dates for vacations.  Would it be possible to explore different
dates for different KVs?  

- Small area and lack of ventilation of the CCA Hall

- PTA members expressed a concern for the quality of teaching of
Science in IXth Std. by temporary teachers.  It was decided that
temporary teachers will be employed for lower classes as far as
possible.

- The Principal  emphasised the following 

+ Children should come to the school with proper breakfast.
+ Uniform should be neat and clean and personal hygiene should be
closely monitored.


ITEMS FOR ACTION:

- It was decided to find out in greater detail which KV if any had
vacations in a non-standard time. (Sudeep Arora)

- Next executive committee meeting was scheduled for May 1, 2004.
