Writing

It is hard enough to remember my opinions, without also remembering my reasons for them! - Friedrich Nietzsche

Naga used to call me Tayzwi. Read Tayzwi's Blog.

My favorite pieces of writing have been on Lolita, Adaptation, and Pulp Fiction. The writer of the post on Lolita is somewhat ambiguous: Its partly me, partly Humbert, and partly a fan who is close to the three of us; Or maybe its just me. Please mail me if you want to read annotations for that post. The post on Adaptation mirrors the movie's self referential nature, and uses some amateur philosophy as a vehicle. The one on Pulp Fiction just reflects the movie's non-linear narrative.

Is it 1984? A post on Manufacture of Consent. I am an atheist; my personal take on religion and my slight dislike for analogies typically used in theological arguments. I have seen some subtle shifting of power in the Indian relationship equation.

I am incredibly fascinated by intractability of problems. Here are some ruminations on enumeration and its connection to NP-completeness and Approximation. I often wonder how the human mind solves some of the harder problems. Does it approximate? or do something truly outlandish?

The Indian Independence Day of 2005 brought forward this piece in abstract, which got a lot of brickbats. In reply, I went on an emotional tirade against all those who thought that India was indeed given a fair deal. I followed that up with a less emotional and more balanced justification on why I am a jingo. On a related note, it makes me sad that Kannadigas don't have meaningful symbols that define their identity. Personal and professional responsibilities of leaders in the context of their being magnanimous intrigues me.

On a more personal level, I am not happy that I feel sad at the things I feel sad about. I often wonder whether I am living an ideal or a selfish existence. In less abstract terms, I also have doubts about what academic field to study. Also, I love Bombay.

Reviews of the movie Hazaaron Khwaishen Aisi and the book Shantaram. These are not technically reviews because I deliberately give only fleeting references to negative aspects for Hazaaron..., and ignore all negative aspects in Shantaram. I also tried an absurd comparative take on a book I will probably never read.
