Web Search Results' Ranking: PageRank, HITS and Related Work
Guide: Prof. Soumen Chakrabarti
Abstract: Ranking of results is integral to Web Search due to the large number of pages that potentially satisfy a user query. PageRank and HITS (Hypertext Induced Topic Search) are two popular methods that use eigenvector computations to rank results. In this report we give a detailed overview of these methods and present a few other parameters that affect ranking; these being topic sensitivity, stability, staleness of web content, fine grained sub-page analysis, and link-spamming.
