The
Project Policies
- The policy has been revised further. Here is the final policy for
project assessment: No rewards policy is
fixed a priori. I will assess the work at the end of the semester and
will decide rewards/penalties which may show up either in cs324 or
cs394 or both. The following
groups have agreed to abide by this policy and now the matter is
frozen.
- The earlier announcements are modified by withdrawing the two
restrictive clauses. Other decisions remain same.
- However, a word of caution about GCC projects is in order.
The
nature of the work in GCC projects is somewhat nebulous and will
require a lot of initiative and flexibility apart from advanced
applications of the basic skill set. In the absence of a sustained
genuine interest and motivation, no amount of work will help. On the
other hand the C compiler project is much more structured with
concrete sub-goals, well defined strategies of work, and objective
assessments. Since GCC project has higher risks, depending upon how you
perform, the rewards could be higher, and so could be the losses in
your grade!
- These options are mutually exclusive: Those who do GCC projects
are not required to the C compiler project and vice-versa.
- You can form your own groups. C compiler projects are to be done
in
groups of 2 whereas GCC projects are to be done in groups of 3.
- By default, 4 GCC projects are available.
- Any group is free to choose any option. I will step in only if
- The number of groups
wanting to do GCC projects exceeds 4. I
may allow a few more groups but in no case would more than 8 groups
will be allowed to do GCC projects.
- There is a conflict in choice of GCC projects.
- The quantum of extra credit for students doing GCC projects is
define this:
- default cs324 marks (8 credits) and cs394 marks (3 credits)
will be awarded out of 100 marks each.
- actual cs324 marks = default cs324 marks + 20% of the csc394
marks.
- grades for cs324 will be awarded on the basis of actual cs324
marks.
- grades for cs394 will be awarded on the basis of marks received
in cs394.
- Only
GCC projects make you
eligible for an AA grade.
