Infothela
Infothela is a mobile unit meant for providing and exchanging information through fax, internet, telephony etc.
It will serve the purpose of education, entertainment, and provide agriculture based information, weather information, health care information, government information, etc.
The idea of designing an infothela is to provide, exchange information at village level where fruits of modern technology have not reached yet. The factor of mobility is of utmost important here as the thela can move from place to place in a day and one or more cluster of villages which are situated 3-4 kms apart in general and thus the thela can provide its services to all those villagers.
The thela will generate a self-employment avenues (just like PCOs) for urban and village population. It is a self-sustaining project aimed to deliver information and spread knowledge among poor masses.

Detailed Description / Features
Infothela is a mobile platform located on a re-engineered tri-cycle rickshaw with a colour display and a CPU, powered by a 12V, 135 AH battery through an inverter. The battery and the inverter are mounted below the platform. The battery is charged overnight in a nearby town through an electric point and charging is also supplemented by an inbuilt pedal power generator. It is connected to internet through 802.11 p-t-p link by a small wireless antenna on the top of the Infothela roof. It is made resistant against shock and vibration, dust, rainwater and theft.

One of the important application of Infothela is use it as a comprehensive module to improve health standards in rural India. The major objectives are :-
- To empower the rural women through information and understanding of health and disease related issues.
- Better, quicker, easily accessible, and cheaper diagnostic facility for treatment and aftercare.
- Improvement of health and hygiene of villages , preventing loss of man-hours due to disease and thereby improving their earning potential.
