What to look for in a good school?


  • Quality teaching - modernized syllabus, use of good teaching aids, practical implementation of theoretical knowledge.

  • Low student/teacher ratio - most good schools inforce a strict limit on the student/teacher ratio so that every child can be given some level of individual attention.

  • Good teachers - teachers should be well educated, must understand child's psychology and a source of inspiration for the students.

  • Emphasis on virtues like discipline and punctuality and good moral education. School years are the most influential ones in development of these qualities.

  • Overall personality development of the child - teachers should be able to identify individual weaknesses of children and help them improve upon them.

  • Facilities - Science labs, computer labs well equiped with latest equipments.

  • Scientific displays like models, charts help in creation of a good ambience in the school.

  • Sports - A good school should have an adequately large playground and quality sporting equipments.

  • Announcement systems in class rooms.

  • Recreational and cultural programs well spaced round the year.

  • Educational tours and picnics should be organized at least twice annually.

  • Healthy competition among students - inter house sports, exhibitions etc.

  • Students should have district/state/country level participation opportunities.

  • School should make sure that information regarding events like state level/national level olympiads in various fields are made available to the students and they are encouraged to participate in the same.

  • Excellence in any field should be encouraged by way of awards, prizes and scholarships.

  • School premises should be spacious and airy.

  • Cleanliness - clean toilets, regular dusting of classrooms,labs.

  • Special tutorials should be organized for lagging behind/weak students.

  • School must have an emergency doctor/medical facilities.

  • Regular teacher-guardian meetings should be held to actively involve the parents in the education process of the child.

  • There should be adequate number of school buses and bicycle parking arrangement with shed.

  • Security guards should be deployed in the school premises.

  • Mentors.
