American India Foundation

104 centers have been established in nine states of India and another 58 are on the anvil.
Over 1200 teachers and 23,000 students have been trained since 2001
All teachers have developed multimedia lessons using presentation software in their language of instruction.
All students are conversant with usage of Office tools and 80% of them use vernacular fonts to create content in their regional language.
At least 40% of the students can use internet to search / browse and use emails to telecollaborate with students in other countries.
20% of students can make deft use of web camera, digital microscope, CD writer, etc.
Many schools have created their own web sites.
Around 18 schools already have a sustenance program running after school hours.

Akshaya - The Project

1. 450 Centres are running well in the district

2. 5.8 lakh people trained in the e-literacy phase (Total families in the district is 6.5 lakh). 25,000 people got KSITM/ CSI Certificate through an online examination.

3. 40,000 persons trained in the second level course, 5000 persons certified KSITM/ CSI Certificate through an online examination.

4. 2,40,000 sq. ft of space in Malappuram is used for ICT for Development activities in Malappuram

5. Direct employment of 5000

6. Hardware penetration rocketed in the district

7. All most all the LP and UP Schools are now given information computer classes by Akshaya Centres

8. Lot of socially relevant interventions through Akshaya including, rain water harvesting promotion, water resources survey, Health mapping, setting up information kiosks in all the Local bodies during last Loksabha elections etc, helping the SSLC students through Vijayabheri.

9. E-pay transaction enabled, now the citizens can pay their dues to government at their door step Akshaya Centres

10. More than 30 courses rolled out through Akshaya Centres, including the courses of Centre for Developing Imaging Technology (CDIT), Keltron, Computer Society of India (CSI), National Institute of Design (NID), Intel Learn Programme etc.
