WHAT IS THE MOTIVATION
India is one of the leaders in the field of Information and Communication Technology. But most of the rural India, the real India does not have access to the technology and it's benefits. Here we present certain organization which are trying to help rural India benefit the available technology and make our nation a better one.
The efforts for achieving Universalisation of
ElementaryEducation need a
multi-pronged approach. One of the possible tools that can aid this process
is
the use oftechnology in a creative manner, not only to attract outof-school
children back into school, but also to make a positive impact on the
academic learning outcomes of children. Such projects have been of
tremendous learning value, and has provided some very important insights
into how technology can be used to improve learning outcomes of children.
There are a number of areas that require more
investigation regarding
the question of using technology in government primary schools. One of the
questions that is the topic of this note is on the kind of content that is
required for rural government schools. This document attempts to capture the
key learnings pertaining to content from the experience of the past one
year, and for a longer period of observation in an urban setting.
The statements made in this document emanate largely
from direct field experience and have been found to converge with important
aspects of theory regarding child psychology and pedagogy.
What is critical to understand is that such content as described in this
document was made available to children in rural government schools over the
past one year.
The observations and quantitative assessment point to
the following:
1. Children enjoy using the kind of content described in
the document
2. Over the past year of using this content, children have
shown significant progress with respect to academic
learning outcomes.
This note has been written to articulate a perspective on content that is
appropriate for the rural government school setting. The premise in this
case, is that IT is being used for improving the academic learning outcomes
of
children. Therefore, this is the use of IT in Education
and is not IT Education.
Governments have been emphasizing economic development by ensuring growth rates of seven-eight per cent annually. This opportunity must be fully utilized to bridge the rural-urban divide, using knowledge as a tool. That is we must increase the level of rural india in term of knowledge and technology.
To achieve success using ICT in rural India we consider the education medium of getting into rural India using ICT. The majority of the population studies in some village school. Here we describe certain NGOs who get into these schools and help children learn through computers and educational softwares.
