Roles and Responsibilities
- Managing the IT infrastructures of CSE department
Server infrastructure - Managing more than 20 department servers and 60+ virtual machines in the CSE department. These servers are responsible for a wide variety of services such as e-mail service, dns, ldap, nfs, web server, dhcp, git etc.
Network infrastructure - CSE department owns 2 buildings(kresit and CC). We have 2 routers(connecting to the IITB network), 60 managed access switches which help in providing networking in these two buildings.
Lab infrastructure - We have 4 Software labs to be used for conducting course related labs, exams, workshops, placement activities and other events. The total number of machines in all these labs is around 400+ and updated with latest ubuntu linux and with required software packages.
Data Center - The CSE department has its own data centers and hosts 150+ servers. Managing the data center(maintaining the server room temperature, power backup, allocation of servers to the racks, etc) and ensure the smooth working of all the servers. - Creating iitb & cse ldap accounts and activating email access for new users
- Creating mailing list/aliases and updating these as per requirement.
- To analyse the mail logs to debug the mail related issues using various linux commands
- Adding proxypass entries on cse web server for redirecting urls to internal addresses.
- Adding dns entries for resolving cse domain names.
- Managing software configuration via ansible server.
- Conducting weekly meetings and assigning tasks to Sysad Mtech RAs.
- Solving mail related issues like non delivery of emails, whitelist the ip to send emails, roundcube/squirrelmail login issues and setting up of email clients like thunderbird,pine, etc..
- Solving issues related to network(both wired and wireless) in cse buildings.
- Documenting the procedure(installation/configuration) of all cse services.
Technical Skills
- Remote installation of Linux OS using NFS, FTP, HTTP, PXE, KIKSTART
- Deploy, manage and cloning using FOG
- Installation of Softwares by yum,apt and managing softwares remotely using ansible
- Users and Groups Administration
- Disk Management using Software RAID, LVM and Disk Quota
- File servers using FTP, NFS, SAMBA
- Proxy server using squid
- Web Servers apache, apache tomcat, nginx
- Authentication Server LDAP
- Mail server using postfix and dovecot
- DNS Server using tinydns and dnscache
- Version control system like svn, git.
- Controlling the server UPS using apcupsd and performing an orderly shutdown of servers.
- Virtualization using kvm and managed by proxmox & virt-manager
- Writing shell scripts to automate the tasks.
- Managing storage servers like Synology NAS and freenas.
- Monitoring the Remote Linux servers using zabbix.
